You know Claude Harmon?...
Claude Harmon Sr. began his career at an early age by qualifying for the U.S. Amateur in 1931 at the age of 15.
His career path led him to the prestigious position
of head club professional at Winged Foot Golf Club in New York where he worked for 33 years.
During his time there, he competed and won the Masters in 1948. He had three runner up finishes at the PGA Championship in the mid 40’s and early 50’s – tied for third place each time. He also had two PGA Tour wins.
This was a remarkable
accomplishment considering he was a working club pro who was competing against full time playing pros.
Perhaps his greatest accomplishment should go to the influence he had raising his four sons who all went into the golf profession.
His legacy
has created a real life golf dynasty with three of his boys (Butch, Craig and Bill) all making the list on the top 50 golf instructors in the U.S. by Golf Digest.
His grandson, Claude Harmon III, is widely considered one of the best instructors in today’s golf environment with students like Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka. “I’m 100 percent lucky to work with
players who have the ability and potential to win major championships. I’m in the right place at the right time."
