My Favorite Museums in and around Tampa, Florida

I am someone who is always up for a day out at the museum, be it an art sighting or a history exhibit. Experiencing unique and unknown artifacts brings curiosity that usually helps me view rough situations creatively. I’ve had a chance to explore quite a few museums/art centers around Tampa. Here are my top three favorites.

1. The Dali Museum, St. Petersburg

The Dali Museum features the largest collection of Spanish artist Salvador Dali’s artwork. The 2000+ art pieces provide deep insights into Dali's personal life and work, and the combination of a free audio guide and interactive experiences is a cherry on top. The museum’s fascinating architecture alongside St. Petersburg's downtown waterfront, a cute Spanish cafe, and an outdoor patio featuring interesting sculptures and mazes is definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.

2. The John and Mable Ringling Museum, Sarasota

The John and Mable Ringling Museum is one of the most prominent attractions in Sarasota featuring hundreds of art and cultural exhibits. It includes the Museum of Art, Circus Museum, Ca’ d’Zan, Rose Gardens, and more. I was able to cover the Art Museum, Rose Gardens, and exteriors of Ca’ d’Zan in half a day. I advise you to dedicate an entire day or two if you want to visit all the attractions thoroughly.

The attraction that stood out to me the most was Ca’ d’Zan, a beautiful Venetian-style mansion of the Ringling family located by the Sarasota waterfront park. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time to explore the interiors but I would definitely go back to check it out.

3. The Chihuly Collection - Morean Arts Center, St. Petersburg

The Chihuly exhibit features intricate masterpieces, all made of glass. The subtle lighting accentuates the beauty of the colorful glass sculptures even more. I really enjoyed my visit to the Chihuly Glass Garden, Seattle back in the day, so I had to give this one a shot. The St. Petersburg one is way smaller than the Seattle's, taking about 30 minutes to cover the entire exhibit. Nevertheless, it is spectacular. I would definitely recommend this one if you haven’t been to Chihuly Glass Garden, Seattle.
