While they aren't nearly as mainstream as Char-Broil, another grill company turned 75 this year. That company is Hast Bake. Tulsa World had a story this week about their history that's worth a read. Their owner also says in the article that their sales didn't fall off after Covid, which if true, is really unique for the industry.
We had two articles on Academy Sports this week. They announced
that they opened 7 new stores, for a total of 14 this year. That's part of their 120 to 140 store expansion by 2027.
The other was that they reported earnings for Q3. While their earnings were down, like pretty much every other retailer in the category, they did have a bright spot. They continue to do well with outdoor cooking. They called out Blackstone griddles again as selling well for them.
Grilla Grills parent company, American Outdoor Brands also
reported earnings this week. They said that Grilla set a one day sales record on Black Friday. They also said that they have a "major" new product coming soon. We've been hearing that for over a year, but maybe this time it will be true.
We noted last week that Colt CZ made an offer for Vista Outdoor, Camp Chef's parent company. This week the board rejected that offer. They said the offer undervalues the company, and isn't the best for their shareholders. They are sticking
with the sale of their Sporting Products division, and keeping Outdoor Products public.
Finally, just after they had a huge campaign with Snoop Dogg, Solo Stove continues with celebrities marketing their products. Their tabletop Mesa XL fire pit has been added by Khloe Kardashian to the 2023 Kardashian and Jenner Gift Guide. It's a much more practical gift than Kourtney Kardashian's Heat Healer Energy Sauna for $2,498 that also made the list.
