Blessings on you from the Elliott family! Thank you for subscribing, and we hope you enjoy today’s newsletter. Good morning! I was traveling yesterday and saw a woman who wasn't listening very well to those around her. It started to make me think about the dangers we can all face if we don't hear important information or advice. In fact,
our entire culture is in danger for not hearing the instruction of the Creator. My goal is to bring a little bit of Scripture, a sprinkle of encouragement, and a dash of hope to your day. I love a good cup of coffee (brewed like this), but if some other drink is more your style, I'm sure that will work. The point is for you to take a break from crazy living, just long enough for a sip of
joy.

I know it's late on Friday night here in the states, but I finally have a quiet moment and thought I'd write a Bible study. I've been looking at these verses now for almost
two weeks, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, I keep thinking about this passage more and more. I'm sorry if this goes a little long. I was 11 years old when my father felt God's call to become a missionary. However, God didn't ask him to go to a foreign country. Rather, we went to the state of Florida. It felt rather silly to us, since we cold Michiganders were
heading to "tropical" Florida to start a church. :-) It also felt strange to arrive in our new town and find quite a few churches. Sadly, it was almost impossible to find a church there that preached the gospel. In the mid 80's, retirees and others were flocking to Florida's milder climate, so it was difficult for churches to keep up with the demand of folks needing to hear about the Lord. Read More
The book of Ephesians is such a positive book! It was written by Paul, the first missionary to the nations, while he was in prison in Rome for sharing the gospel. So you’d think he would be feeling frustrated, discouraged, and defeated. Instead, Paul starts his letter to the church in faraway Ephesus with a list of all the ways God had blessed them
all. This is certainly not the way I’d be tempted to act if I were in his shoes! Learn More |
I went to Wal-mart yesterday, and two cashiers were talking at the checkout stand, and I couldn’t hear a word they said.
Something about chocolate. Then they asked if I had ever had some. Too embarrassed to say that I couldn’t hear them, I just said yes. (I guess I love chocolate enough that I probably have had whatever brand they were talking about…) But still! Am I too embarrassed to ask them to repeat themselves? Continue Reading

Some time ago on my blog, I posted an article on how and why God disciplines me. One thing I learned is that God is trying to teach me to listen to Him. This got me thinking. How can I teach my own children to listen to me? The Bible makes it very clear that my children must learn to listen so that they can avoid danger (“look both ways before crossing the street”). I am also responsible to teach them so many things for life, but how can I if they won’t even listen? Most of all, I want them
to learn to listen to God, so that when I’m not around to guide them, they will listen to and follow Him. Read More |
