Day 24: Representing Resurrection
Luke 23:50–56
Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man (he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom: this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body. He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in
a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid. It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near. The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid. They returned and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
Secrets of Heaven 10252.7
Anointing symbolized the preservation of all true and
good qualities with the person, and also their resurrection. For this reason they used this kind of substance that symbolized the person’s outermost life, which is called the sensory life.
Heaven and Hell 461
When we move from the natural world into the spiritual, which happens when we die, we take with us everything that pertains to our character except our earthly body…. We want, wish, crave, think, ponder, are moved,
love, and intend the way we used to. …We even take with us our natural memory, since we retain everything we have heard, seen, read, learned, or thought in the world from earliest infancy to the very end of life.
Reflection
Every intention and action, every experience and feeling that we have had is preserved for use in the next life. What experiences do you especially want to carry with
you into the next life?
