Day 29: It Is I Myself
Luke 24:36–43
As they said these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, “Peace be to you.”
But they were terrified and filled with fear, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
He said to them, “Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is truly me. Touch me and see, for a spirit doesn’t have flesh and bones, as you see that I have.” When he had said this, he showed them
his hands and his feet. While they still didn’t believe for joy, and wondered, he said to them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”
They gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. He took them, and ate in front of them.
Secrets of Heaven 4735
The Lord’s Human, now that it has been glorified or made Divine, cannot be thought of as something merely human but as Divine Love within a human form…. For it was by Divine Love that the Lord made His Human Divine…. From this it is evident that in the heavenly sense the Lord’s Divine Human means Divine Love itself, which is a love directed towards the whole human race whom He wishes to save, making them blessed and happy for ever,
and to whom He wishes to impart, insofar as its members can accept it, what is His and is Divine, so that it becomes their own.
True Christianity 109
Before His coming into the world the Lord was of course present with people in the church, but only indirectly through angels who represented Him. Since His coming He is now directly present with
people in the church. In the world He added on a Divine physical form that enables Him to be present with people in the church.
The Lord’s process of glorification was a transformation of the human nature that He took on in the world. The transformed human nature of the Lord is the Divine physical form. A proof of this is that the Lord rose from the tomb
with the whole body He had had in the world. Nothing was left in the tomb. Therefore He took with Him from the tomb every aspect of His earthly human form.
Reflection
A key New Church teaching about the Lord’s resurrection is that we can now think of his humanity as Divine Love within a Human Form. How could
this perspective help you understand or believe in Jesus’ ministry?
