Hey,
At times, I can be hard on myself.
I often question whether my inner
strength is enough to plow through any obstacle that stands in my path.
I mean - we all do this to ourselves, right?
We all occasionally create these limiting beliefs about what we can and can’t do Well, for me, when I get into this mind trap, I find myself looking for real-life inspiration to help me get re-energized and motivated to blow past my hurdles.

In 1951
Gustaf Håkansson was a 66-year-old bearded grandpa that loved to
bicycle. That’s him below.
He loved it so much, he signed up for an endurance race that crossed almost the entirety of Sweden, about 1000 miles.
Unfortunately, due to his age, medical experts responsible for the health and safety of the racers denied his application for entry.
Undeterred, Gustaf showed up on race day, ready to go, his bike a standard old roadster complete with mudguards and a headlamp.
Since he wasn't officially entered, he wore a homemade bib with the number 0.
Now, when the race started, Gustaf was 10 miles behind the lead pack. The young 20 and 30-something athletes he raced against took a commanding lead.
Gustaf kept on though.
When the other racers slept, Gustaf made up time. He took just one hour to rest before getting back on the road again, in the middle of the night.
And that was his secret to first catching up to the pack, and then after 300 miles, surpassing them with a 20-mile gap between him and the rest of the pack.
After 3 days and a sparse five hours' sleep, Gustaf was leading the field by more than 120 miles!
At one point the police tried to persuade him to stop for a medical examination, and this tough son of a bitch laughed and kept on biking.
He made it 800 yards shy of the finish line.
And he stopped. Here was another obstacle in his way. It wasn’t his body or brain giving out on him, but his bike.
Gustaf had a flat tire.
And you know what he
did?
Gustaf hopped off and walked his bike toward the finish line until he was a few yards away and then he hopped back on
and biked over the line at 2:15 pm on July 7, 1951.
Spectators of this grueling long-distance bike race were ready to shower
the victor with accolades and adoration.
And you better believe they were shocked to find, not a 20 or 30-something iron-man
athlete, but a 66-year-old grandpa with a long flowing white beard.
Now, he has not been declared an official victor, because
he was not entered in the race and the rules stated you were supposed to stop at checkpoints and rest at nighttime.
Yet, he
did win the hearts of his countrymen and was showered with fame and honor for his accomplishments.
And I even skipped the
crazy part - to get to the race on time - Gustaf had to ride his bike 600 miles from his home to the starting line.
He biked
1600 miles over a week on a few hours' sleep!
That’s perseverance and that’s someone that knows everything they have to achieve their goals.
So, when you’re getting those mental blocks or putting hurdles in your way, make sure to keep pushing through.
You can and you WILL accomplish anything you want to do.
