Hey friend, 

Don't you hate deceptive subject lines?

Look at the subject line on this email I just received from Carbonite, the system I use to automatically back up my computer's hard drive. 

ACTION REQUIRED, it shouts, forcing me to open it.

But inside, all I find is a messaging telling me that Carbonite updated its mobile app.

BIG WHOOP.

Definitely no "action required."

I wonder who wrote this email. Who approved it. That person needs a gentle reminder to think about the email recipient. 

And that's why I'm sharing this with you: To encourage you to think carefully of your readers when writing subject lines. Subject lines shouldn't be deceptive in the least because, well, look what happens.

Someone gets annoyed and then decides to tell the world about it.
