Over 80,000 Americans are Missing In Action One Mission: Bring Them Home
Project
Recover has been working for nearly 30 years to locate over 80,000 Americans Missing In Action (MIA). Since 2015, Project Recover has completed over 75 missions in 21 different countries, located and documented 65 aircraft associated with MIAs,
repatriated 17 American service members, and has provided recognition and closure to their families and the nation.
Potential Human Remains Discovered at "Heaven Can Wait" WWII Crash Site A recent article in the The Washington Post tells the story of Project Recover's successful search for a B-24 bomber called "Heaven Can Wait". The aircraft, linked to 11 American MIAs, was shot down in March of 1944 off Papua New Guinea. In the article, The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) released a statement that
“osseous” material that could be human remains as well as “material evidence that could be used to support any potential identifications” have been found. Two weeks later, DPAA held a dignified transfer ceremony to move the recovered human remains from the wreck to their laboratories in
Hawaii for DNA analysis. Take a look at
this video for an inside look on how Project Recover located the B-24 Aircraft
The Repatriation of Anthony Di Petta The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced that they found AOM1c Anthony Di Petta, with the help of Project Recover and other experts. AOM1c Di Petta was an ordnanceman on a TBM-1c Avenger and had been missing since March of 1944. Project Recover located and documented Di Petta’s downed Grumman TBM-1c Avenger in Palauan waters in 2015. In
partnership with DPAA, Project Recover recovered MIAs from the Avenger during our first MIA Recovery Mission in 2021. To learn more about Di Petta's repatriation, you can read our full blog post. In honor of Memorial Day, donate today and help Project Recover keep America’s promise to bring our fallen heroes home! |
