Hi from Jodi and Julie!  Two days ago the temperature here was warm enough to be in t-shirts and shorts. Today the weather took a turn for the worse and it's getting to be in the 30's. Whenever it gets cold we start thinking about prepping for cold weather situations. Over the years, we have done a number of blog posts on this topic. In case you're starting to shiver too, it's a good time to start thinking about these things. You never know when disaster strikes what the temperature will be so it's always good to be prepared.

In this newsletter we will give you a summary of some of the blog posts, but make sure to click on the links for the full articles that contain more details, videos, and pictures on the following topics:
  • Cold weather clothing bins
  • 8 tasks to to prepare for winter
  • Emergency heat sources
  • Fortress clothing review

Cold Weather Clothing Bins:
We didn't start our food storage and preparedness journey thinking it would include storing clothes, but you never know what the temperature will be when disaster strikes. Last winter, we did a full post on what we included in our cold weather clothing bins along with some great educational articles that contain information on what types of fabrics you should store. 8 Tasks to Prepare for Winter:
Fall is the perfect time of year to get your yard, vehicles, house, and preps ready for winter. Here are eight tasks you can do to get ready for the change in seasons. Click on this article for more complete descriptions of each task.
  1. Clean up your gardens
  2. Rotate/winterize your 72 hour kits
  3. Rotate your water
  4. Add winter gear to your car kits
  5. Give your furnace a tune-up
  6. Winterize your sprinkler systems
  7. Swap out seasonal/outgrown clothing
  8. Clean out your pantry or freezer
Emergency Heat Sources:
Keeping warm is essential for survival. Loss of body heat, Hypothermia, is very dangerous and can lead to loss of body parts and even death. Wet conditions quickly increase the loss of body heat. When traditional heat sources are not available, below are a few ideas to help you keep warm. Click on this article for more complete descriptions of each source.
  1. Dry (preferably wool) clothing
  2. Hats and mittens
  3. Insulated boots and shoes
  4. Layered clothing
  5. Sleeping bags
  6. Car heater
  7. Mylar blankets or emergency bags
  8. Survival candles, safety heat (in a can), hand warmers
  9. Rice or bean filled packs
  10. Thermal undergarments
  11. Insulated clothing
  12. Plastic garbage bag
  13. Mr. Heater Buddy
Fortress Clothing Review (AND DISCOUNT CODE):
Fortress isn’t just a coat – it’s not even just cold weather clothing. Fortress is your complete heat storage solution, and the advantages to using this to provide your warmth in an emergency are obvious. Fortress retains your body's heat. Instead of trying to heat the space around you (your home, tent, or cabin) with traditional resources like firewood, coal or propane, Fortress allows you to be comfortable while heating yourself. Whatever the conditions, you will be able to function! Click on this article to see our full review on the Fortress clothing line.
