April 30 was designated as "International Jazz Day" by "UNESCO", the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 2011 "to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role in uniting people in all corners of the globe."
The entire month of April was designated as "Jazz Appreciation Month" by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History "to stimulate and encourage people of all ages...to study the music, attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, and more" in 2001.
