And farewell to August—
Let's take a pause…in this brief turnaround time between summer and the coming fall. It's in many ways that last little breather just before we hit the ground running to the end of the year.
Setting aside the flurry of activities that are about to fill our calendars and with a look ahead at the holiday craze (already?), I'd like to plant a seed for all of us.
While it may seem way too early to consider the "giving season", what if we approached the very practice of it differently and then by doing so, we extended the season throughout the year?
This is a deeper dive into what we can all fall into when it comes to giving—too much / not enough / validation / justification / leveling the playing field / making a statement / payback / one upping / belonging—just to name a few reasons we tend to give.
Can we use this as a jumping off point?—as a way to reset how we give and how we don't? Do we need validation in order for the gift to be "real"? Does the act have to be documented? Does it mean less if it's not?
