How are you ?
Chia seeds are small seeds that many claim may be one of the most nutritionally sound foods on the planet. A staple in the ancient Aztec and Maya diets.
Tarahumara runners in the deserts of Mexico run 50+ mile marathons and fuel themselves with Chia Seeds before their run. The drink a mixture of water or corn beer lime and Chia seeds and pack an extra small pouch of about 2 tablespoons of this wonder seed.
Here are people that live in the desert running 50+ mile marathons for sport and they are not drinking gallons of water before their run, but are staying hydrated with Chia Seeds. Wow!!!
How Chia Seeds Hydrate
Due to the high water content of chia seeds (once soaked) they assist hydration releasing a gel like water that hydrates more slowly and effectively than liquid alone.
Chia seeds are great for recovery
You wouldn’t think it but Chia Seeds contain lots of amino acids, the building blocks of protein. They’re also high in antioxidants which combat free radicals – molecules responsible for cell and tissue damage – this helping reduce inflammation and improve recovery.
How You can use Chia Seeds to fuel up
Chia seeds are versatile and you can add them to almost anything. They are virtually flavorless, so add them to any assortment of dishes to boost their nutrient content. I personally love adding them to smoothies, salads and green drinks.
Be Well!
