Hi ,
It's a new month packed with new releases of fantastic crime novels.
GETAWAY WITH DESERT GETAWAY
It's a new month... and launch day for Michael Craft's light-hearted new crime novel DESERT GETAWAY, which is scoring rave reviews like these:
"Michael Craft is bound to nab accolades for his new novel... one that weds the shadowy mystique of noir and the sunny beauty of the desert to winning ends." —The Desert Sun
"One can practically see John Waters in the background clapping with glee." —Los Angeles Times
LEMON MAN ISN'T A LEMON
"The well-ordered life of Dublin hit man Patrick Callen, the narrator of Irish author Bruton’s entertaining debut, is turned upside-down when he impulsively takes custody of the 11-month-old infant son of his most recent victim. However, as Patrick and his girlfriend, Olivia, struggle to puzzle out the mysteries of nappies and late-night feedings, he has to scramble all
the harder to keep up with the workload of a busy murderer-for-hire. Meanwhile, his mother is dying and has medical bills to pay, Olivia is in the dark about what he does for a living (she naively thinks he’s babysitting for a friend), and the Garda have put out a priority alert for the missing infant. More seriously, his newfound domestic distractions have caused him to bungle what should have been a pair of routine hits, putting his employment in jeopardy. Not surprisingly, things work out for
everyone in the end, but the humor and drama of getting there will delight readers. Sparkling prose, a well-realized setting & appealing characters make this offbeat crime novel a winner. Bruton is definitely an author to watch."
The novel, coming in July, is now available for pre-order here.
THE DOCTOR DEATH SAGA
We've just released The Doctor Death Saga, all four novels in Herb Fisher's classic Doctor Death action/adventure series. This 1970s vigilante series is beloved by collectors and scored great reviews in its day. It's definitely not a cozy!
"Doctor Death shoots, stabs and strangles as smoothly as most grandmothers make hot cocoa." —New Jersey Courier-Review
"Meet Doctor Death... a Green Beret who crushes his foes with the intensity of Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Sylvester Stallone rolled into one paperback pulverizer." —Camden Courier-Post
Kyle Youngblood was a Green Beret in Vietnam...where he became a relentless killing machine, fighting for God and country, while longing for the humanity he left behind. They called him Dr. Death. But when he returns home to his ranch in Nevada, to his loving wife and kids, he discovers that he can't escape the violence...

THE ZARAHEMLA VISION IS HERE
We've just released The Zarahemla Vision, the second book in Gary Stewart's acclaimed Gabe Utley P.I. series, which Mystery Scene columnist Ben Boulden discussed on his blog.
"The books are set in Salt Lake City, Utah in the mid-1980s. A time when the Mormon Church’s influence on local politics and culture went unchallenged. [They] really are a time capsule of what Mormon culture and Salt Lake City were more than 30 years ago and while the plots revolve around polygamy (The Tenth Virgin), racism, Church politics, and corporate
greed (The Zarahemla Vision) there is not a trace of anti-Mormon sentiment. Instead, Stewart conjures a realistic vision of how things really were. The beautiful and ugly alike. Not to mention, both are extraordinarily entertaining."

A LITERARY CLASSIC RETURNS
Out now: The People from Heaven, John Sanford’s most ambitious and searing novel, completes his Warrensburg Trilogy, digging beneath the bucolic surface of a small-town to expose the hatred at its core. (Sanford is NOT John SANDFORD of "Prey" books fame). This is an amazing, but complex novel that has been out-of-print for way too long.
"A sacred book, majestic in its rebukes of those who violate the breath and origin of humanity while professing faith and going through the motions of holiness." —Carl Sandburg
The people of Warrensburg are divided by the arrival of a nameless Black woman. Her few allies call her America Smith, while the town’s most prominent citizens try to drive her out. This clash results in rape and murder. Sanford punctuates this spare plot with poetic episodes from the nation’s past, rooting the characters’ actions in the violence of the nation’s founding.
He tells the story with an artistry of language that led the Cambridge Companion to Jewish American Literature to call him America’s “most outstanding neglected novelist.”
This new edition of Sanford's literary masterpiece features an Afterword by Jack Mearns, author of John Sanford: An Annotated Bibliography. The other books in the trilogy are Make My Bed in Hell and The Old Man's Place.
"Sanford's technique is arresting and every page has a savor and quality of its own." —The New Republic
SPEAKING OF SANFORD...
There's a great interview with scholar Jack Mearns on the hard-boiled, literary novels of John Sanford. He says, in part:
"Sanford started his writing career highly influenced by Joyce. But over his next few books, he forged a style all his own—merging conventional novelistic narrative with historical material. In Make My Bed in Hell and The Land that Touches Mine, Sanford alternates between multiple narrative voices. In his non-fiction books, Sanford shifts his narrative voice, depending on his subject. The diversity of his style is astounding."

We hope you enjoy these books... and there's even more to come as we head into summer. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay brash!
