We're kicking off May with lots of new releases and pre-orders... and a new hardcover edition of a beloved classic.

THE OLD MAN'S PLACE

The Old Man's PlaceThis is a hard-boiled, literary masterpiece, back in print for the first time in sixty years, and includes a new introduction by Jack Mearns, author of John Sanford: An Annotated Bibliography. The critics went wild over the novel.

"Sanford is a supreme master at squeezing the last drop of terror and excitement out of a sordid, savage situation. The story sweeps along with an ugly force that will send sensitive souls in search of smelling salts."
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

How can you resist that? Here's the story:

A trio of vicious World War One veterans descend on the farm in the Adirondack mountains where one of them grew up and his father now lives alone. They embark on happily wreaking drunken havoc at the old man's place and in the nearby town. But when a naive, mail-order bride arrives, she ignites a tinderbox of resentment, lust, and betrayal among the men that explodes in brutal depravity, bloody violence and shocking death.

Make My Bed In HellBut that's not all. His novel MAKE MY BED IN HELL, which was also out-of-print for decades, will be available in June... and is now available for pre-order. The critics loved this one, too:

"The prose is fresh and energetic, the story-telling superb, and the writing comes out as raw and terrifying as an exposed nerve."
New York Times

Here's the unforgettable story:

Aaron Platt has spent every day of his life breaking his back to scrape a living from the rocky, played-out fields of the Adirondack farm he inherited from his sadistic father. One winter morning, he follows footprints in the snow to his barn and discovers a man freezing to death in a horse stall. What unfolds between the two men, past and present, is a brisk, gritty depiction of crime and punishment. But their harrowing story is more than that, exposing the shocking hypocrisy of the people who live in the nearby, bucolic town—a legacy of hatred that reaches back to the violent founding of the nation.

If you like your hard-boiled crime fiction extra hard-boiled, seasoned with literary power, these are the books for you.

THEIR MAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE

Their Man in the White HouseAn obscenely wealthy businessman, who has a strange relationship with his adult daughter, is running for President of the United States and intelligence agencies fear that he may be a Soviet puppet. Sound familiar? No, these aren't the Trumps. But in 1971, author Tom Ardies saw the future in a wild, political spy novel that has now become the perfect thriller for our time.

American spy Charlie Sparrow is assigned to infiltrate tech businessman Davis Berwick Marshall's outsider campaign for President. The candidate's man-hungry, widowed daughter has just returned from overseas and Sparrow bears a striking resemblance to her late husband. Sparrow hopes to leverage that resemblance to get into Lisa's bed... and into the corrupt Marshall campaign. But can Sparrow reveal the truth before a possible Russian spy occupies the Oval Office?

The Chicago Tribune was wowed, calling the novel "Innovative, deft and entertaining," while the Oakland Tribune raved, "The theme is interesting, the dialogue is brisk and sexy, the action is swift, and the tale is full of unexpected twists."

Whatever your political leaning, you'll love this fast-moving, funny book. You can order it here.

BLUES IN THE NIGHT

Blues in the NightDick Lochte is a Nero Wolfe Award winner and has been both an Edgar and Shamus Award finalist. His novel BLUES IN THE NIGHT, first published in hardcover in the UK in 2013, is now available as an ebook and paperback for the first time! It's a terrific, noir novel of redemption, a lightning-fast thrill ride, a witty whodunit and an edgy, no-holds-barred love story that reads like a modern day Maltese Falcon on steroids… by one of the most acclaimed and admired writers in crime fiction. But don't just take our word for it. Booklist says "Lochte turns in an excellent performance with this gritty, well crafted thriller with a likable protagonist and an engaging cast of supporting players."

You can order it here.

THREE HOURS PAST MIDNIGHT

Three Hours Past MidnightIn June, we're releasing Tony Knighton's THREE HOURS PAST MIDNIGHT, a stunning, hard-charging crime novel in the tradition of Richard Stark, Lawrence Block and Thomas Perry... and the prequel to A FEW DAYS AWAY, which we'll be releasing this fall. Here's the story:

When a Philadelphia state senator is arrested for racketeering and held without bail, his ex-girlfriend reveals to a shady, retired cop that there's half-a-million dollars just sitting in his bedroom safe. The cop brings in a professional thief, who rips the safe from the wall and drops it out the window. It's a sweet score—but they're hijacked before they open it. The thief survives and tears through the city, going up against warring gangsters, bent cops, and a cold-blooded assassin to take back what's his—even if it means dying for it.

Here's some of the acclaim:

"A gripping and fast-paced thriller." Philadelphia Inquirer

"A knife sharp piece of Philadelphian noir. Recommended for all fans of fast paced, hard hitting crime fiction." Andrew Nette, Pulp Curry Blog

"A wonderful thriller. It oozes grit and swagger and leaves blood all over your hands." Ginger Nuts of Horror Blog

"There is a touch of Hemingway and Chandler in the writing. Hard-boiled noir thrillers don't come any better than this." The Toorak Times
