Be a Writer of the Future ... Now
|
I have great news for writers in these troubled times. Writers have the capacity and ability to succeed and thrive as we head into the future. Why do I believe this? Because:
- Envision: Writers are seers. Many authors have already written and published books about pandemics in the past, books that often reflect much of what is happening today. As you absorb today's news, do it with an eye for what the future will bring. Then write it!
- Create: Writers create passage to a better world. People are gobbling up books right now, not just because they are home but because books provide an escape like no other. Readers can enjoy new worlds, the distant past, or far future through YOUR words.
- Thrive: Writers can be harbingers of hope as well as a means of entertainment in this—and future—times. What you write now can be a glimpse into the future, a passage to a better world, as well as YOUR ticket to reaching readers in the future.
How can you write something that sounds “current” when so much can change in the next 2 or 5 or 10 years (since we want our books to continue to be read for many years)? We can do that because writers CAN envision the small details in the Next Reality based on what is happening today. Writers have always been grasping--and writing--into the future. Now it is your turn as well.

An Agent on Publishing and the Pandemic
|
Bookends Literary Agent Jessica Faust recently explained her take on publishing and pandemic books. And, yes, some pandemic-related books ARE being pitched to—and published by—commercial publishers. You just need to know what is and is not sought by publishers.
Check out what this long-standing agent says on this YouTube video. (From about the 9 minute to 11 minute marks, she gives you EXACTLY what you need to know!)
