SOLUTIONS TO GET YOU WRITING:
Having trouble writing? A client found himself flailing to get his book rolling again in the midst of our world's current crises. He wanted (needed) the mental escape into story-writing and told me he was struggling to get started. So, I suggested this "mission," and it is working great for him. Try it yourself if you need a
boost:
"Your mission, writer, if you should accept it
(insert a little Mission IS Possible music here)"
- ONLY think about what scene you want next, something about 5,000 words or about 20 pages.
- Set aside SPECIFIC time on three SPECIFIC days a week to write. Put it on your calendar.
- Take the next 3 weeks to write that scene, writing only 2-1/2 pages on ONLY those 3 days a week (8 sessions).
- On that first day, start writing and when you get to 2-1/2 pages, stop MID-sentence
- The next (and the rest of those writing days) DO NOT re-read what you did last time—just plunge forward from that half-written previous sentence and crank out another 2-1/2 pages
- In 8 sessions you’ll have your 5,000 words and a completed scene!
- On the 9th session, review and revise that whole section.
- Repeat from Step 1.

The habit of writing regularly, on a schedule,
with a specific and short goal,
helps get over slumps, creates momentum,
and, hey, results in finished books!

Inspiring Young Readers
Congratulations to Cheryl Braginsky who says, “After all the years of writing, editing, re-writing, and re-writing again, my children's book is published at last!" Autumn's Quest is a fantasy novel for 8- to 10-year-olds, that can now be
purchased through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Bookpage on BookBaby, and independent bookstores everywhere.
Cheryl writes, “To all of you who have encouraged and supported me over the years, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
Editor's Note: It was a pleasure to work with Cheryl to create a tale that speaks to the hopes and fears and ultimate success we wish for all youngsters.
