Hi ,
I don't know about you, but for most of my kiddos memorizing their math facts was like an ENDLESS battle year over year. Each time I thought they had them down, somehow they would forget their 7's or their 8's and we'd start over again with the boring flashcards and practice drills-- the announcement of which would lead to many sighs and groans. But, there was no way around
it. We had to get those facts moving on over from our working memory into our long term recall. It was a real challenge.
Fast-forward a few years, through a bit of trial and error teaching, I realized that skip counting games and activities, while fun, lacked an important skill-building activity: SPEED.
The speed at which we do things demonstrates mastery and can serve as a key indicator for how well students understand and recall the skip-sequence. Plus, it's kind of fun to be fast at something, which means your students will build confidence as they get faster and more accurate.
So today, I have some fun and free Skip Counting Speed Drills to share with you! I hope these help to ease the burden of memorizing math
facts for your kiddos and will add some fun, and excitement to your classroom!
