Spring Break Mission Teams
|
As Covid-19 protocols begin easing, mission teams reappeared on campus in March. For Boone (NC) and South Plains (Lubbock, TX), it had been two years since their last trip, having been the last two groups before travel restrictions were implemented in March 2020. But, for Eastside (Colorado Springs, CO), it had been three years, as they had to cancel their 2020 visit.
In addition, the Boone team was joined this year by the first official mission team to visit Ciudad from Harding University in Searcy, AR.

It did not take long for everyone to get "back in the swing" of things and although there were some teams in Cozumel last summer, having the spring break teams back was a great boost to morale!
The teams performed service projects for Ciudad that included painting the outside wall, clearing a path to the new Transition House, repairing swings, and repainting bed frames.
Teams also organized activities for our children that not only provided recreation, but allowed team members to interact and continue developing relationships with them.
We want to thank everyone who participated on a spring break mission team this year. We can't wait to see you again and for the summer teams to return!

Chanti has completed all of her coursework toward her degree in business. As is customary, she attended a ceremony indicating this milestone prior to the actual graduation ceremony, which is expected to take place this summer.
|
Chanti plans to assume a full time position in Ciudad administration, working in the bookkeeping department.

This year, Ciudad transitioned from our "Virtual 5k/10k" to participate in the 2nd Annual Miles for Meaning fitness challenge. Teams from non-profit organizations across the nation competed for $60,000 in prize-donations for their charities.
We had 143 individuals participate for Team Ciudad and collectively, they logged almost 11,000 miles!
Together, Ciudad Teams 1 & 2 raised more than $24,000 in donations! Our Ciudad Team 1 finished in 13th place in miles logged, and as such, won an additional $500 for Ciudad. We also won $1,000 for the highest amount raised during the first week and another $1,000 for the highest total for the entire event. So, in all, we raised $26,585!
Thanks to everyone who participated in this event.

Transition House Construction
|
The final phases of construction on the new Transition House are well under way. The first floor is essentially complete (pending final walk through and punch list), but students will not move in until the second floor construction is complete, in order to minimize interference with workers.
Spring break mission teams were able to tour the facility in its current state and everyone was favorably impressed. Opportunities to help provide funds to furnish the Transition House are available. We will need refrigerators, stoves, dining tables & chairs, living room furniture, beds & mattresses, and desks/study carrels.
