Behind the Scenes 💲 How I Top Affiliate Leaderboards & Make BIG Money

Published: Fri, 01/03/20

I got an unexpected email this morning that totally made my day 😎 and the way I responded to it made me think... I should share this tip/idea with you!

It's something I do as second nature (now), but it may prove useful to you as something to consider in your own communications as your business grows...

"Everything is Negotiable" 💡 Smart Business Tip!

In the free 2-part series on Building A Buying Audience where I shared a behind the scenes look into how I run my niche business 💲 (and all the ways I make money)...

I shared that I often get commission raises or negotiate special deals with my merchants or joint venture partners.

I get those things because... I ASK FOR THEM.

All of these things are "conversion boosters" 💥 whether I negotiate a special offer, a coupon code, or a commission raise for myself (which motivates me to promote more!).

📬 Back to that email I got this morning...

I did a lot of fun promotions during December, topped a lot of leaderboards and made TONS of affiliate commissions.

This morning I got a personal email from a new merchant I just started working with last month, thanking me for promoting and letting me know I was her TOP affiliate for December!

She gave me a 10% raise on all December commissions (already earned) 🙌 to say thank you, and offered me access to four of her products - for my own use (which if I like, would be great to promote too!).

➡️ TIP: If you have affiliates, go above and beyond for your top marketers and best performers! It will motivate them to make even more sales for you. ;-)

All good and fine, right? I could simply say thank you, it's a pleasure working with you, blah blah blah.

NO. ❌ When you have someone's ear, their full attention, when they reach out to YOU (or respond to YOUR email) THAT is a point of open communication you want to LEVERAGE.

It is a primed moment of OPPORTUNITY.

Ask yourself: how can I help them? What else can I offer them? How can I create a win/win/win here (for me, for them, for my audience)? What could I counter-offer? etc

In this particular case I replied and said how much I enjoyed her product, that I looked forward to continuing to work with her, the "thank you" part, etc - then...

I asked her for a January coupon code to help people kick off the new year better, a deep discount I could offer this month to give people on a great product that could REALLY help them.

If she says no, I'll likely lose interest in promoting for her. If she says yes, I could be her top sales person again this month, and not only boost her revenue (product sales) - but put A LOT of new "buyers" on her customer email list. Which is a great start to the new year for everyone involved! (win/win/win)

Obviously getting a "yes" benefits me as well, plus it benefits the people who get the discount and USE the product (because it's awesome).

In another example, one of my favorite merchants in my low carb niche did NOT run a holiday or year-end sale.
They were letting things "rest" after a HUGE cyber weekend sale a month earlier.

I didn't see anything coming upon the promo calendar, so I sent an email to the affiliate manager and asked.

(TIP: BE PROACTIVE)

He confirmed, no: they didn't have any big promotions planned. Instead of saying thanks and moving on, I replied to his email...

I said, "Great, can I run one for you then? Let's set up a year-end special offer or coupon code for my audience, for people that want to stock up for their New Year kick off. Could we do 20% off Friday thru Monday as a year-end weekend special?"

IT NEVER HURTS TO ASK!

(note: just asking, even if they can't or won't do it for some reason, puts you on their radar as an actively interested partner or affiliate - whether you're pitching an affiliate merchant or a potential JV partner, it will leave an impression. a GOOD one!)

He said yes. :)

💲 I sold over $11,000 in product for them.

BAM! 🔥 win/win/win

(my audience LOVED the discount AND the products!)

If you don't do affiliate marketing, you should - period. But you should ALSO consider how affiliates and joint venture partners could double, triple or even 10x your sales.

And it's a resource you can tap into ANYTIME YOU NEED FAST CASH OR QUICK SALES.

I hope this proved helpful, or at least interesting. ;-)
