Lost Commissions & Design Hacking (not related)

Published: Sun, 02/09/20

When I posted WARNING: ARE YOU GETTING PAID? ... I believe I got schooled in the comments. 😉 But it was actually quite helpful! It helped me narrow down exactly where the problem happened, at least.

If you do any sort of affiliate work in your online business, as a merchant OR an affiliate, you'll want to read that.

I mentioned in that post that I've been doing affiliate marketing for more than 20 years. I was thinking recently I'd like to reteach my Super Affiliate Strategies training, but perhaps in workshop style this time.

As I was outlining that though, I realized the biggest problem most people have is building a buying list & audience that will even SEE their recommendations. So I'm working on some ways to better help with that (too).

That brings me to "Design Hacking" which is how I spent most of the day yesterday...

The term is a play off of Funnel Hacking, and a great session taught at the Funnel Hacking Live event I just attended last week.

"Hacking" referring to modeling and/or reverse-engineering funnels and designs that are already proven. Or what us old-school marketers call Swipe Files - except a little more advanced.

In this particular session though she took it a step further with browser plugins that allow you to copy (emulate, model) very specific design elements.

She also taught you how to figure out WHICH design elements you should model for your own sales pages or opt-in pages, which was both super simple and brilliant at the same time.

Speaking of, SIMPLIFY was a common theme across the entire event. The message being: stop working so hard and simply scale what's working, or model what's working for someone else. (ie: don't reinvent the wheel)

Back to Design Hacking, there's a very fine line between copying someone's work (don't do that) and emulating a working model. Go with your gut on that.

I've had my hard work copied/stolen. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I was neither flattered OR happy.
😜

Using proven methods is smart though, and you can add to Funnel and Design: Price Hacking. Meaning, learn from those who have already spent the time and money to split test a variety of prices and pricing strategies.

Wal-Mart used to sell things for .97 or $7.99 or $99.97. Internet Marketers followed suit. (Wal-Mart knows what they're doing, right?)

I recently noticed Wal-Mart is now using the numbers 6 and 9 a lot on the end of their pricing though: 4.96, 19.99, 44.96, 24.99, etc. You can see that here (not an affiliate link, just an observation). Beware the annoying ads and popups.

I wonder how long that will take to filter down.
🤔 Or maybe it has already. Now I'm curious and off to go check! lol...

If you're interested in "Price Hacking" see my post on Product Types & Pricing Strategies, where I shared that THREE is the magic number for both - plus two sources for templates / ideas on how to structure your product pricing. ;-)

I hope you're having a great day so far, and this proved useful/helpful or at least interesting to you.

I'm "in the niche trenches" and have been in business and working online 23 years as of this month. I'd love to share more of my daily discoveries and observations with you this year if you're interested...

Best,
Lynn Terry

p.s. I hope you had a chance to pre-order the FHL event notes already. I mentioned in my last note that the price would go up - and it did. Not by much, but I believe it was meant to go up again at midnight last night and just hasn't yet.

There's no sense paying more than you have to for session notes from the ENTIRE event. You'll regret that, because this is definitely a high quality online marketing education for a dirt cheap price!

Plus a design, funnel & pricing strategy to hack. ;-) ha!
