Grand New Hotels
Bigger, better and more luxurious are the watchwords this year on the hotel scene.
The Hotel Bellevue in Dubrovnik has just re-opened after a major overhaul that took six months to complete. It cost millions. Located in a secluded cove only 10 minutes from the Old Town,
the hotel now has an eye-popping lobby, a new wine bar, Vapor restaurant and a Spice Lounge with a terrace for relaxing.
The Grand Hotel Park Rovinj is the most expensive hotel project in Croatian history (although not the most expensive hotel)! Designed by Milan-based architect Piero Lissoni, the
astonishing interior contains 209 rooms all with a view of Rovinj along with six restaurants, a wellness and spa centre stretching over 3800 square meters, a congress hall and a shopping promenade with luxurious international brands.
Now that there's a ferry stop at Split Airport it's soooo much easier to get to Split and the islands.
Not only can you hop a boat to get to central Split (which I mentioned in a previous newsletter) but you can go by boat directly to Brac and Hvar islands. From June to mid-September Split Express runs regular passenger ferries from Split airport to gorgeous Bol on Brac
island and the ancient town of Stari Grad on Hvar island.
You can book online or buy tickets from the driver of the van that shuttles you from the airport to the airport port.
New Attraction in Hvar Town
When I first visited Hvar town several decades ago I was
introduced to this adorable little theatre. It was built in 1612 and was the first public theatre. Not long after my visit it was closed for renovations and structural reinforcement. It stayed closed for years and years and years. It finally re-opened a few weeks ago and I heartily recommend that you check it out. I can't wait to revisit it.
I get a lot of questions about Croatia. I wish I could answer them all personally but I can't. PLEASE if you have questions or comments about the above posts, put them on one of the Croatia Traveller pages I've linked to
above or on the homepage. I'll answer them. I promise! All Croatia Traveller pages have a comments section that I monitor assiduously.
