New Brooklyn Sheraton

Compared to Manhattan, nice places to stay in Brooklyn have been relatively hard to find.  But that's changing - there are 3,800 rooms "in the pipeline" for Brooklyn.  This week the Sheraton Brooklyn New York opened adjacent to the MetroTech Center and near Chase Manhattan Bank, the U.S. District Courthouse and Morgan Stanley.  It's the first "full service" hotel to open in the borough since 1998.  Lower Manhattan is only one stop away via subway and it's only about 15 minutes to get to Times Square.  The new Sheraton Brooklyn is also a reasonable option for anyone looking for a place to stay before or after cruising from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

Year-Round Cruises from Charleston

Carnival began year-round cruises from Charleston, South Carolina this week. The Carnival Fantasy offers trips to the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Bermuda. Our new Charleston Cruise Guide has details on all the cruises from that beautiful Southern port.

This Week's New (or Improved) Hotels

Chapel Hill, North Carolina added a little more moderately-priced trendiness this month with the opening of Aloft Chapel Hill.  It's the 40th Aloft to open worldwide and features the brand's trademark "loft style" rooms.

The Doubletree Hotel Pittsburgh/Monroeville Convention Center is the latest addition to that hotel-laden suburb of Pittsburgh.  Monroeville is about 12 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh and the new Doubletree is adjacent to the big Monroeville Convention Center.
