Epic Guitar Heroism

The new Norwegian Epic (which starts cruising the Caribbean from Miami in mid-July) will have some Gibson guitars onboard for rental by passengers.  Don't worry, each guitar package comes with a mini-amplifier and headphones so you don't disturb those who don't share your guitar-thusiasm  The Gibsons will be available from the Epic's "Fat Cats Jazz and Blues Club" for $10 a day.  Rock on, Epic cruisers!  You'll find all kinds of information about the Norwegian Epic, including scheduled sailings for next 18 months, at the new Miami Cruise Guide!

Cruises from Alabama

Yes, you can cruise from Alabama. Mobile, Alabama. And it's growing as a cruise departure point: Carnival Cruise Line recently moved the Carnival Elation to Mobile for year-round departures. Take a 4-, 5- or 7-day western Caribbean cruise to exotic destinations like Cozumel, Progreso, Calica, Jamaica and Grand Cayman. Our new Carnival Elation page has the full schedule, photos and information.

This Week's New (or Improved) Hotels

Embassy Suites Raleigh-Durham Airport/Brier Creek is quite a mouthful.  It's also the latest Embassy Suites location to open in North Carolina, less than a mile north of the airport and almost exactly midway between Raleigh and Durham.  It's the first Embassy in NC to feature the company's "hip casual" Flying Spoons restaurant.

Even very non-urban places like Winchester, Virginia - in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley - can get an infusion of "hip, urban" style: The Aloft Winchester opened this month just a 9-iron off of I-81 on the southeast side of town.
