The weekly Let's Talk Leadership podcast show, with executive leadership coach Des Walsh as host, focuses on leadership for the digital age. It includes regular interviews with leaders, leadership coaches and authors.

In business, government, not-for-profits and community organizations, leaders today face special challenges from the convergence of dramatic changes in society, work and technology, not least from the impact of social media. But this era of digital disruption also brings opportunities for leaders savvy enough, skilled enough and willing enough to seize those opportunities and run with them.

I DIDN’T ACTUALLY DECIDE NOT TO BLOG

2019-09-20 00:39:57-04

There was no point in time where I decided to take a break from blogging.

But I was shocked the other day to see how long it had been since I had blogged.

On my Thinking Home Business site,  it’s been about 18 months since I’ve done a “real” post.

And on this Des Walsh dot Com site, apart from one brief announcement post, it’s been about 10 months.

In the meantime, it’s not that I’ve been idle on the social media front. In that time I’ve been posting almost daily on Facebook.

But not on my blogs.

A situation I am now ready to remedy.

Because I actually love blogging.

And after about 19 months of posting on Facebook, and doing a lot of training for online marketing, I feel I can post now in a way that is more enjoyable for me and that I am confident will be more engaging for readers.

In another post I’ll talk about my latest thoughts about particular blogging platforms, and share lessons I’ve learnt along the way, that may be of help to others.

If you’re a blogger, have you ever taken a break from it, whether intending to do that or by “drift”? And if so, how long were you away and was that helpful?

THINKING ONLINE MARKETING? SAVE YOURSELF SOME PAIN

2020-01-16 03:32:06-05

In my ongoing education in marketing online, one lesson I’ve really taken aboard is the importance of the distinction between high-ticket and low-ticket products or services.

The terms probably speak for themselves, but for the sake of those not familiar with the marketing jargon, an example or two might help.

In the product area, according to a Google search I’ve just done a bottle of Yellowtail bubbly from one of our local liquor stores will cost you $10 – definitely low-ticket.

At the high-ticket end, a 1982 Chateau Lafite Rothschild will set you back around $9,126.

For services, a one-off coaching session, priced at anywhere from say $175 to $500, is low-ticket.

A 12 month, one-on-one coaching package will be priced in the thousands, and for a quality program will almost certainly be at least a five figure investment: high-ticket.

HOW WILL CONSIDERING THAT SAVE YOU PAIN?

Because marketing low-ticket is a tougher call, in terms of value for your effort, than marketing high-ticket.

For one thing, you have to sell a lot more low-ticket than high-ticket items to reach your income goals.

And it’s getting harder to market low-ticket.

The online marketing experts are telling us that it is getting much harder to achieve a reasonable return on low-ticket items.

In fact, one said that as we move into this new decade, it will become nearly impossible to sell low-ticket, because of the cost of marketing, unless perhaps you have special advantages, such as a huge audience.

So what’s a ballpark figure for “high-ticket”?

It will depend on the product or service, but generally not less than $3,000 and more likely, from what I read and hear, not less than $5,000.

And if you are considering affiliate marketing, I’d say you should ensure your commission per sale is not less than $1,000,

Think about that the next time someone tells you they have a great opportunity for you.

Ask, are the products high-ticket (“tell me more”) or low-ticket (“Next!”).

Then ask what your commission per sale will be.

ALWAYS SOMETHING NEW TO LEARN

Until this morning, I thought I had all that pretty well worked out.

Then I sat in on an online Q&A with the CEO of our Affiliate Institute business, that provides a platform and community for comprehensive, continually updated information, education and training in online marketing.

With just a few distinctions, the CEO took to a whole new level my understanding about the crucial business importance of the distinction between high-ticket and low-ticket.

I am so loving the education, training, and mentoring about online business from the Affiliate Instiute platform and team.

I’ve been around the online business world for a long time now and can say, hand on heart, this is definitely next level.

Suzie Cheel and I have set up our Facebook #FreeedomGang group, for people who want to know more about online business, especially affiliate marketing, raise questions, have discussions in a safe, spam-free space.

Does that interest you? Come and check us out at this link (note: there are a few simple questions for joining, to help us to get to know you) https://www.facebook.com/groups/345101279198063/

A GROUP FOR VISIONARY ENTREPRENEURS

2020-01-17 01:55:49-05

“You’ve started a new Facebook group?”

“Yes, with Suzie Cheel as co-founder,”

“I already have more than I can keep up with,” I hear you say.

I can readily relate to that.

in fact, I could not tell you right now how many groups I belong to.

But some are a lot more useful, interesting and engaging for me than others.

And it is my intention to make this new group – Freedom Gang – all of those things and more.

 It’s for visionary entrepreneurs.

So it won’t be for everyone.

It’s about business. Specifically online business.

The aim of the group is to support visionary entrepreneurs in creating sustainable online businesses, scalable to 6 and 7 figures, or beyond, and a freedom lifestyle, with integrity and fun.

Transparency alert. We will on occasion promote our own business, which is focused on education and training in online business, especially affiliate marketing.

Otherwise there will be no promotion. Definitely a spam-free zone.

As well as drawing on our own experience, Suzie and I are being mentored by people who have been and continue to be very successful, especially in the online space: that will help us support our group members in turn.

We’ll be sharing ideas, insights and tips for success online.

Our vision for the group is to be a place of sharing, of discussion, of occasional challenges, of webclasses, of getting answers to questions, in a safe and respectful environment.

If you find the concept of the group attractive, or at least intriguing in the first instance, we would love to see you there.

And if you check us out and find that the group is in fact not to your liking, you can easily leave and we will certainly not take it personally.

And if for any reason that doesn’t work, just search on Facebook with the hashtag #freedomgang

With every good wish for you in this new year and new decade.
