Hey, Happy Wednesday! The running joke when I was a kid was
my addiction to, perhaps reliance on, peanut butter sandwiches. Although these days I’m quite the gourmand, I was an
annoyingly fussy eater back then, living off a human version of a limited-ingredient diet. The one daily constant was PB, occasionally smeared down the ‘chute’ of a stick of celery to get some greens in me,
but usually in a “sarnie”.
I was, and still am, a purist. Just bread and peanut butter. No butter (a crime) and very rarely any jam or jelly (a novelty act). It’s a rarer treat these days, but
peanut butter on warm toast is still one of my greatest pleasures.
It’s also one of my dog’s.
If he doesn’t hear the jar opening, he’ll smell its contents within half a second of them being exposed to the air. Then he follows, sits and, with a patience that would shame a saint, waits for even the tiniest offering. Peanut butter is also something he very occasionally gets on a lick
mat or in a chew toy. But should he? Is it good for him? Are there things I should be aware of? How much should he get? Is human peanut butter okay or should he have dog-specific peanut butter? You’ll find the answers to these and other questions in this excellent article: Is Peanut Butter Good for Dogs? I hope you enjoy it as much as I’m going to enjoy my lunch. I’ll leave you to guess what’s on the menu.
