Rebecca "Becky" Halstead, retired Brigadier General of the United States Army wrote the book "24/7: The First Person You Must Lead is You" with the average American in mind. Few people have been
in her position; leading others in a life or death situation, barring people who have served in the military or other high-intensity jobs.
Many come up blank when asked to list 'skills of a leader.' This book is a great way to discover your inner leader or further develop your leadership skills.

Before becoming a leader of other people, you must become a leader yourself. It starts by building yourself into a person that others want to follow. Here are a few starting
ideas:
- Have Tenacity: Don't Quit: Leaders don't quit when life gets hard, they quit when they're done. Instead of saying, "I can't do this," say, "I will find a way to do this." A positive attitude and outlook is everything when it comes to achieving goals. You can do whatever
you set your mind to; focus on how to do it instead.
- Commit Yourself Daily to Be the Best You Can Be: Giving it 100% is not always easy. It can be difficult to push yourself to do better and achieve what may
seem like unattainable goals. Nevertheless, a leader should always try their best for themselves but also for others. Setting an example will inspire people to be their best, too.
- Be Authentic: Stay Real and Be Humble: Don't be afraid to admit that
you're only human, and humble yourself through volunteering and giving back. Leaders are authentic people, who know their personal values and stick to them. Make a list of five of your most important values and then evaluate your life to make sure that you are embodying those values. If you aren't, either start, or pick other values.

These just scratch the surface of developing leadership skills and building self-confidence, which is important for a healthy life.
Being self-confident
can help set realistic goals physically and also encourage perseverance. Mentally, self-confidence leads to people being more outgoing, optimistic and generally happy.
