Synopsis
One of the most popular Disney movies of all time is now a Tony Award winning Broadway musical! Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and of course… flying! The stage version features new music plus such classics as ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, ‘Step In Time’, ‘A Spoonful of Sugar’, and ‘Let’s Go Fly A Kite’.

BERT (Late 20s to 30s) A Chimney Sweep and Jack-of-all-Trades. Charming and charismatic friend to Mary. Excellent singer / dancer. Baritone to G.

MARY POPPINS (Mid 20s-30s) The Bank’s nanny with a dazzling, precise personality. Mezzo Soprano with a strong upper range.

MR. GEORGE BANKS (Late 30s to late 40s) A stoic bank manager. He’s a good provider, but often forgets how to be a good father. Baritone.

MRS. WINIFRED BANKS (Mid 30s-40s) A former actress, who tries to live up to her husband’s expectations. She is a loving, but distracted mother to Jane and Michael. Mezzo Soprano.

MICHAEL (9-12) & JANE (11-14) – The Banks children – bright, precocious and strong willed. Often misbehave to get attention. Strong singers.

MRS. BRILL (40s-50s) The Banks’ cook, she rules the kitchen at No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane. Alto.

ROBERTSON AY (20s) Clumsy, but good-hearted, the Banks’ bootman has trouble following instructions. Tenor.

There are several other featured supporting roles.

ENSEMBLE (15 and up) play a variety of supporting roles and perform in several numbers featuring various dance styles.

Additional Info

We are auditioning early to get a jump on summer plans! This production is under the direction of a creative team with multiple Zoni awards and nominations. Phoenix First is famous for producing the largest Christmas show in the southwest, seen by over 70,000 people each December – complete with flying aerial artists and state of the art lighting, video and sound technology in a 3500 seat venue. Over the last several years Phoenix First has continued to expand it’s theater programming with original plays and musicals – and Broadway classics.

Please note: Although this is produced by a church organization, this community theater musical is open to the public. Cast members are welcome but not required to participate in church activities.

What To Prepare

What to Prepare for Auditions – Two options:

Option 1: If you want to be considered for a leading or supporting role please prepare:
A) a 1 min. monologue (dramatic or comedic)
B) 24-32 measures of a Broadway song
– Choose something in the style of the show that displays your vocal strengths
– If you use our accompanist, make sure you bring properly marked sheet music
– A CD player / Ipod dock will be available to play accompaniment trax
– Please – no ‘a cappella’ singing

Option 2: If you only want to be considered for an ensemble role – or you are auditioning for the Children’s Ensemble:
A) we will provide a short cold read monologue
B) you will sing a segment from ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’ (verse 1 and chorus)

Dec 19, Friday: time slots available between 6:30-10pm; Dec 20, Saturday: time slots available between 10am-1pm; Dec 21, Sunday: time slots available between 1-4pm

Callback Dates and Times:
Dec 21, Sunday: you may be called any time between 4:30-6pm and 6:30-9:30pm; Dec 22, Monday: you may be called any time between 2-5pm and 6:30-10pm.
