$8 off Phone-in Ticket Orders for Opening Weekend to THE WALLACE & LADMO SHOW
|
The Wallace & Ladmo Show tells the true story of a very unlikely kid’s TV show from Phoenix, Arizona in the year 1964. The show gave birth to one of the most unlikely one-hit-wonder bands in American rock and roll history, Hub Kapp and The Wheels.
Their hit single, Work ( A Dirty Word), rocketed to the top of the charts in Phoenix, and for one memorable week, actually outsold the Beatles. This got the attention of nothing less than Capitol Records. They signed the band, and Hub Kapp and The Wheels were off to fame and fortune. But what about The Wallace & Ladmo Show? What effect would losing a third of its brain trust have on the show? This play asks the question, what is the big time?

The television program, which aired in various incarnations from 1954 to 1989, was historic and beloved. While most children's shows were content to air cartoons and push products, "The Wallace and Ladmo Show" frequently
featured topical political satire that sailed over tykes' heads. Its cast of social misfits - a blowhard superhero, an out-of-work cowboy, a clown who hated kids, a spoiled brat who would taunt viewers - would never be seen on "Captain Kangaroo" or "Sesame Street." The material was more Saturday Night Live than Sesame Street. Parents and kids alike loved the show for more than 35 years.
Starring Bill Thompson as
Wallace, Ladimir Kwiatkowski as Ladmo and Pat McMahon in a huge variety of characters, the show was one of a kind! The Wallace And Ladmo Show, written by Ben Tyler, is a fascinating and funny look behind the scenes in 1964. The year of Hubb Kapp And The Wheels, the shows foray into the national spotlight! Whether you grew up watching or moved to AZ recently, this show is a wonderful play with music all about making the "big
time".
