Synopsis
They’re a normal American family: Dad’s off to work, mom makes cereal and sack lunches, wise-cracking teenage kids are musical geniuses and high school star athletes! And there’s nothing normal about them. This Pulitzer-Prize winning musical explores the darkness of mental illness, depression, grief and the ethics of modern psychiatry as they ravage the American dream. Set to one of the most moving rock scores of the decade!

Character Breakdown

GABE (male 18-25, plays 18): TENOR B2-C5
Diana & Dan’s son. Dashing, althetic & bright. He is everything a mother could imagine.

NATALIE (female 16-21, plays 16): MEZZO (w/strong belt) G3-G5
Diana & Dan’s troubled daughter. An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother’s behavior.

DAN (male 40-50): BARI-TENOR Ab2-B4
Diana’s husband. Handsome and genuine. He is a constant in Diana’s life, but is growing weary with her antics and frustrated by his inability to truly “help” her.

HENRY (male 17-25, plays 17): BARI-TENOR G#2-B4
Natalie’s classmate. The all-around musician, philosopher and slacker (read “stoner”). He has an intoxicating capacity for sympathy and romance.

DR. MADDEN (male 35-45): ROCK TENOR A2-A4
Diana’s handsome phychiatrist. Quite assured in his practice and considered somewhat of a “rock star.”

PLEASE NOTE: The role of DIANA is already cast.
