Character Breakdown

Henry Higgins – (Cast – Terry Gadaire)

Eliza Doolittle – Starring role, exceptional acting and must have a trained Soprano vocal quality. Needs to have some dance ability as well. Must have exceptional stage presence and should be able to do a cockney and a british accent. Eliza is a common flower girl who is transformed into a beautiful lady by Henry Higgins. She is strong willed yet vulnerable.
(Age Range: Early 20s; Vocal Range: Soprano)

Alfred P. Doolittle – Lead Role, Strong acting with comedic timing required. Should be able to co a cockney accent. Must have great stage presence and move well. Dance is required for this role. He is Eliza’s father. A gruff and poor dustman who is always down on his luck looking for others to bail him out.

Age Range: mid to late 40s; Vocal Range: Baritone)

Colonel Pickering – Lead role, strong acting and singing skills required, with comic timing needed. Dance not required. Must have exceptional stage presence and should be able to do a formal British accent. He befriends Hennry HIggins and helps the transformation of Eliza. He is quite good natured.
(Age Range: Early to mid 50s; Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor)

Freddy Eynsford-Hill – Supporting role, strong acting and singing skills required. Dance is not required for this role. Must have a charming and sophisticated look. Should be able to do a British accent. He’s Eliza’s love interest, more interested in singing about it than doing anything about it.
(Age Range: Mid to Late 20s; Vocal Range: Tenor)

Mrs. Pearce – Supporting role, strong acting and singing skills required. Should be able to do a British accent. Dance is not required for this role. She is Henry’s main housekeeper. She runs the house to perfection and keeps Henry in line when required.
(Age Range: Early to Mid 40s; Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano)

Zoltan Karpathy – Supporting role, strong acting required. Should be able to do various accents. Must be able to dance. This role will also double in the ensemble. A former student of Henry’s, he has become a confidant across Europe but uses his speech talents to blackmail his clients.
(Age Range: Early to Mid 30s; Vocal Range: any)

Mrs. Higgins – Supporting role, strong acting skills required. Should be able to do a British accent. Dance is not required for this role. Singing is not required for this role.
(Age Range: Late 50’s to Late 60s; Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor)

Jamie and Harry – Supporting roles, strong singing and dancing skills required. Should be able to do a cockney accent. These two men are Alfred’s best friends. Will also double in the ensemble as well.
(Age Range: 30’s to 40s; Vocal Range: Baritone/Tenor)

Ensemble – Need men and women, strong singers and dancers for the ensemble. This show has many production numbers, some just vocal and some include dancing. So we are looking for performers who can sing and dance, or just sing…that’s ok for this show as well. All minor and small roles will come from the ensemble.
(Age Range: 20’s to 50s; Vocal Range: All)

What To Prepare

Dancing

The dance calls will start promptly at their designated times. Please be ready to start on time and wear dance appropriate clothes and shoes. All females should wear character heels if possible. You will need to stay and sing. Please see the singing requirements below. For ensemble roles only, you do not need to schedule a singing audition time. You will sing immediately following the dance call. However, if you are auditioning for a named role, you will need to sign up for a specific singing time slot.

Singing/Acting

Singing/acting auditions will be by appointment only. Please email [email protected] or call (602) 909-4215 to schedule your audition time. Audition times will be assigned every 5 minutes. You will need to have sheet music in the proper key. No cds or acapella singing will be allowed. Please have 2 contrasting vocal selections of 32 bars or less ready. An accompanist will be provided. Please do not sing anything from the show. Have your music either in a hole-punched binder or taped together. (please no loose pages) You may also be asked to do a monologue, not to exceed 1 minute, so please have one prepared just in case.
