· Mr Bohmler will coach singers from the piano in Art song, Opera and Musical Theater genres.
· Refine your audition techniques including repertoire selection, engaging the audition panel, and how to lead an accompanist in the audition room.
· Learn how to “serve the text” in performance.
· Singer Participants may present performance ready pieces or very well-prepared works in progress, on-book, in all sessions except for Audition Techniques.
· Singers strongly encouraged to bring a smartphone or other digital recording device to the session(s).

Based in Phoenix, Arizona, Craig Bohmler is a devoted composer for the stage whose works have been widely performed in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. He is also an insightful educator, expert adjudicator, and sought after panelist for high-profile competitions and performance workshops, including those at Phoenix Theater. He is currently the Composer in Residence for Arizona Opera.

Singers will perform one of their two selected pieces.

Session Schedule

SESSION 1: Friday 3:00pm – 5:30pm. Art Song, Lieder, and Mélodie Class.
Mr. Bohmler will coach singers presenting selections of Italian or English art song, German Lied, or French Mélodie. Chanson (French folk song) and Canzone (Italian folk song) also welcome.

SESSION 2: Friday 7:00pm – 9:30pm. Opera Class.
Mr. Bohmler will coach singers presenting selections of operatic literature.

SESSION 3: Saturday 10:00am – 12:30pm. Audition Techniques: Opera & Musical Theater.
Singers will present a selection from the operatic or musical theater repertoire, from memory, in a mock audition and receive constructive feedback. Please Note: musical theater selections are limited to 32 bars for this session. Cuts are optional for opera arias.

SESSION 4: Saturday 2:00pm – 4:30pm. Singing in English: Serving the Text.
Mr. Bohmler will coach singers presenting classical or musical theater selections in English.
