Synopsis
Playback Theatre is an improvisational art form in which members of the audience members tell stories from their lives and then watch the ensemble of actors and musicians bring the stories to life using music, movement, and theatre. Essential Theatre, now in its 27th season in the field of theatre and social change, is a
professional ensemble providing Playback Theatre performances and workshops for marginalized adults and youth across Arizona.

Character Breakdown
We are looking for 1 actor and 1 conductor/performance facilitator to join our company on a part-time, paid basis. Men and women of color are encouraged to audition. For actors, acting and improvisation training is preferred but not required. For the conductor: excellent listening,
facilitation, and presentation skills are needed. Training is provided for all new ensemble members.
What To Prepare
For everyone, Essential Theatre artists will introduce Playback Theatre, then we’ll do some group warm-ups and improvisation games.
Please dress ready to move.
For actors, we will teach you a simple Playback Theatre form.
For conductors, we will model a short Playback interview of someone telling their story and ask you to try it on your own, with our support.
