Show Synopsis
A mixed-status Latino immigrant family faces life after the passage of Arizona's Senate Bill 1070. The play explores the ramifications of the now infamous law that put Arizona on the map for all of the wrong reasons. "1070" follows one family's fight to survive the
social and political upheaval caused by the law's passage and the cascading effects that continue to reverberate across the nation.
Character Breakdown
The script is not complete, but we will have 10 to 12 adult and female roles (20s to 60s), various
ethnicities; two child roles, one male and one female (10 to 12 years old). Actors may be asked to play more than one role. Bilingualism in English and Spanish helpful, but not required. Non-Latino actors welcome. This play has several non-Latino characters. “1070” is an English-language script. And New Carpa Theater Co. is an equal opportunity employer.

Cold reads, actors are not required but you're welcome to perform one or two short monologues.

New Carpa Theater Co., founded in 2002, is dedicated to featuring new Latino and multicultural works and emerging talent. Producing Artistic Director James E. Garcia is the author of more than 30 plays. His work has been produced at several theaters in the Valley, including the Herberger Theater Center, Gammage Auditorium, Phoenix Theater, and the Helen Mason Performing Arts Center (Black Theater Troupe).
