Lit Up:
Eight-Week Improv Workshop

It may be hot outside but SMoCA is always cool – the galleries are set to 70 degrees and 50 percent humidity. Avoid summer burnout by doing something amazing for yourself: join our eight-week improv class for adults.

No experience necessary!

This course with Jose Gonzalez of Phoenix’s Torch Theatre will teach you how to harness your creativity and turn your life experiences into memorable performances.  Whether you’re extroverted but looking to channel that high energy, middle of the road but wanting to shake up things, or shy and wanting to break out of your shell, you’ll learn new skills, build your confidence, get comfortable with spontaneity, master the off-the-cuff comment, enjoy yourself and make new friends.

Jose co-founded The Torch Theatre in 2007 and has been co-producing the Phoenix Improv Festival since 2002. He has worked with an array of amazing teachers like Joe Bill (Annoyance Theater, Bassprov, iO Chicago), Craig Cackowski (iO Chicago/West, Second City, NBC’s Community), and Susan Messing (Annoyance Theater, Second City, iO). As a performer and teacher, Jose has traveled with Galapagos, Dangerville, Umlautilde, Mariachi Kittens, The Foundation, and other projects all over North America and overseas.

The course concludes with a final public performance. So get off the couch and turn the summer doldrums into a springboard for adventure, fun and transformation!
