We LOVE when successful filmmakers share what worked for them. We always learn so much from your creative endeavors and this letter is one of the best submissions we've received.
The Template That Raised $25K
One of our successful producers was kind enough to let us share the
EXACT email he sent out to his contacts that successfully raised over $20K for his movie,
Devouring Venus.
There are so many amazing things in this email, but what's so clear is Marty's passion, creativity, authenticity and honesty. His words just MAKE you want to reply and at least acknowledge his thoughtful email even if you don't have a dime to invest. THIS is how you communicate with anyone regarding your film.
Some of the great things Marty does:
- Very clear from the beginning what the email is about.
- He is emailing his contacts - not strangers blindly!
- Acknowledges that film is a risky investment and they probably WILL lose all their money, but then STILL makes his case.
- Leaves the story out of it!!!! It is not at all relevant to the message he is sending and his target audience (non industry).
- Uses humor and language that makes it super easy to hit the reply button and shows he knows how to tell a story well.
What Marty shows in his email is that he can tell a compelling story. He can move you with his words. If you can't do that with your initial contact to anyone with whom you wish to do business, then why would anyone think you have a compelling story to tell on camera???
What happened next? Not everyone could afford the shares of the movie Marty was pitching, but because he wrote the amazing email, they asked how they could help in a smaller way? So his crowdfunding campaign ending up raising almost as much as one investor share.
When you do this right, the money flows to you. When you ignore all the experts, you struggle. It really is simple.
Look at these "filmmakers." Here are emails FilmProposals has received recently:
- i need investors for a great movie on my life. please advise.
- Am so poor I need money.. Help me
- Hello, my name is XYZ l am looking for a investor for my short film project l am doing it would quite expensive at this time l really need help.
It really is SO EASY to stand out from the hordes of lazy filmmakers who will never raise their film funds and think they are entitled to receive money after putting in zero effort.
Go ahead, use
Marty's template that raised over $25K, make it your own and see what funds come to you! If you aren't willing to put yourself out there to your own contacts, why on earth would you approach a stranger? The world needs a LOT more content to "devour" - there's never been a better time to put the effort in your film financing campaigns.
And if you learn anything from Marty, please go ahead and show him
social love.
Stay Safe and Healthy!!!!!
