Progressing Exercise - Part 2
(In this blog, we talk about HOW...)
|
|
Last week, we discussed the things you need to THINK about for progressing your patients with exercise therapies, and the questions you need to ask yourself about the patient (and owner). This week, I want to talk about HOW to progress a patient. More specifically, what components you can change in order to
progress your patient? Let’s dive in!
Firstly, you need to ask yourself, what is my goal? Do I need to build cardiovascular endurance? Do I want to build strength? Power? Is my exercise goal to improve muscular endurance? Balance? Technical difficulty? Speed? Am I trying to get this dog back to a sporting level of fitness? Or, are
you just looking to improve lameness, weight bearing, and overall use of the limb?

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc, etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET
THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!
