What's new?
Well, its summer here in the Northern Hemisphere. Finally! We have some nice weather, green grass, and beautiful days here in Canada. We wait for this all year... (and get about 3 months of it!) Ah well, might as well enjoy, and mow the law weekly!!!!
So the new Borzoi puppy, Xana, is fabulous. She is a little sweetheart. Honestly... she's fairly calm, well behaved, and fun. We are enjoying her very much!
At the clinic, this week will mark my 'previous' business partner's last day! She's retiring. It's been 19 years that we've known each other and been partners. It will be different. I'll miss her. I'm happy about my new business partners, but the transition deserves some introspection. We have been through a lot. We took a stand. We had an impact. We set a standard. We set a precedent. We took
risks. We stuck our necks out. We made a difference, and we helped thousands of dogs along the way. And the legacy will live on.
So, that's it for the updates... !! On with the show...

Don't Say Doodle, but...

So I came across an interesting Science News article that summarized a research paper on the effect of inbreeding, body size, and morphology on health in dog breeds.
To cut to the chase, the message was what one would expect. To get certain shapes / looks of dogs, inbreeding had to have occurred in the past to perpetuate that look. Along the way, some undesirable health attributes were passed along as well.
The paper (Bannasch et al, 2021) stated that the average inbreeding based on genetic analysis across 227 breeds was close to 25%, or the equivalent of sharing the same genetic material with a full sibling. "Data from other species, combined with strong breed predispositions to complex diseases like cancer and autoimmune diseases, highlight the relevance of high inbreeding in dogs to their health," said
Bannasch.

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc, etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that
your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!
