What's new?
Well, I am busily working on presentations! I have deadlines, that are looming! Yikes!
On Saturday, we were at a Family Wedding. It was an outdoors wedding, the groom and groomsmen arrived by horseback, the bride and her bridesmaids arrived by stage coach. The backdrop was the mountain range! It was stunning. A nice time to visit with family and neighbours! So, I included a picture of my family for you all!
Okay... so I had better get busy on creating an abstract for my talk at the IAVRPT!!! It's due tomorrow... but I was only 'officially' invited last month! I'm behind - again!
Chat later!
So, that's it for the updates... !! On with the show...

BLOG:
Tibial Tuberosity Avulsions
|
|
In reading a ‘human’ blog on apophyses in adolescent athletes, I was reminded of a case I saw years ago. It was a young Borzoi that was lame in a hind limb. Details of how the dog had gotten to me are sketchy as, this was perhaps 15 years ago now… however I do remember my evaluation of this dog. Mostly because
my presumption of the problem turned out to be wrong, and often we learn more from those cases than the ones we get right!
So, what I remember clearly was that when I was performing the Ortolani test on the dog, he exhibited signs of pain. He was consistent with this. However he had full hip ROM, and no pain on palpation of the soft tissue structures at the hip (i.e. the deep gluteal or the pectineus). It was curious.
Finally, a full round of x-rays revealed an avulsion of the tibial tuberosity – Osgood-Schlatter disease! Why had my presumed ‘hip test’ show positive for pain? Because of where my hand was placed in order to perform the Ortolani test! So, I learned that in order to make sense of any one finding on a physical exam, you need to really put multiple factors into your deductive reasoning! (Fast forward, the dog made a full recovery with rest.)
So, it got me thinking about avulsion of the tibial tuberosity (aka Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD) or syndrome, traction apophysitis of the tibial tubercle (ATT) or patellar tendon enthesopathy of the tibial tuberosity respectively) in dogs. Naturally, I went to Pubmed first, to see what I could find.

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc, etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that
your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!
