Let's get on with the show! Got a Question? Need Answers? Need Ideas?
WELL LOOK NO FURTHER! See what the Four Leg LIBRARY of content has to offer! Or jump onto the FORUM and ask your questions... Not on the Forum yet? Go and register! Not a member yet? Why not?! Affordable & Expansive Learning to be had! What's new? Well, I figured out that a vacation is not going to happen next month. Too much going on! Oh well, I'll take the time off and use it to 'get caught up' on a myriad of things.
This past weekend we bought 3 new bulls for the ranch. However, the metal collection guys
have not yet shown up.
I covered my indoor lettuce/herb growing with a plastic covering, and I think it's helping things to grow better. I've received pictures from others on their successful indoor growing operations, and either I'm a dunce or I need a better set up!
Oh, and we've spent the entire week without a hot water tank! So, I had two showers at my mother's (inclusive of having her
cat watch me while in the shower) and an 'invigorating' washing of my hair in cold water under the tap and a demoralizing sponge-bath. All good now, the part came in and we are back to living the dream with running hot water in the house.
And we went for dinner to a Nepalese restaurant and got to experience 'momo's'!!! They were delicious! So, That's it for the
updates... On with the show!!

Four Leg BLOG: Addicted to Pain, Sensitization of the Nervous System, & Rehab to the Rescue
|
|
Mental health issues are at an all-time high, so I’m told! It’s in the news everywhere you turn, so I’ll assume it’s true! It also seems to be disproportionally high in our younger generation. I have my own theories about that. I think the obsession with phones and social media is a problem. Simon Sinek (fantastic ‘thought leader’ – look him up,
if you don’t know who I’m talking about), says it’s because of the dopamine hit they/we get with ever ping of our phone, and the withdrawal of the dopamine when it is absent. I have also witnessed a reduced ability to connect with each other – to converse, to discuss, to problem solve, to talk, face to face, live and in person as compared to my own generation. (Now I sound old.) I think this is a contributing factor as well. Anyhoo, let me spin my yarn a bit further along. So, I was discussing with my oldest son about people getting addicted to their state of being. (i.e. Addicted to being depressed. Addicted to the ‘story in their head’.) My point was that in order to start ‘feeling’ better one had to ‘think’
better. Catching yourself when you start to repeat the negative dialogue in your head. Purposely change the narrative, notice the good, appreciate the beauty, feel gratitude, and respond differently. One thing we know about chronic pain from pain science research, is that the brain changes in response to chronic pain. It sets
itself up to register all pain signals from a certain area or everywhere else for that matter. It hyper-focuses on pain. (I’m willing to bet that the same happens with feelings of depression or sadness.) Recently, I was fortunately to listen to a
lecture recently by an Australian veterinarian who practices almost entirely in chiropractic treatment. His talk was about the things he had experienced over his many decades of practice, and how he has come to believe that in some cases of peripheral lameness (i.e. navicular syndrome or laminitis in horses) that the conditions was preceded by a spinal joint dysfunction. He further speculated that the pathway for the chain of events was caused by a sensitization of the entire nervous
system – leading to changes in use, patterning, inflammation, etc. He had stories of reversing cases of laminitis and navicular syndrome via spinal manipulation. Mind blowing!

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc, etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that
your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!

Have a great week everyone!
