And a Four Leg Rehab Minute on Patellar Luxation & Sartorius
The life updates:
I'm going to say that last week was a good week. Since things are kinda getting back to normal, I decided it was time to sign up for a gym membership again! My old gym didn't survive Covid, so I had to find a new one. I've only been once so far, but it felt great to be back!
Then I got a hair cut! Finally! The last one was in February. Now I can have a style that doesn't include clipping my bangs up off of my forehead so that I can see!
This week ahead, I'm super excited... my son is moving his goats around into different pasture areas that the cows can't get to (i.e. into dense bushy areas or places with lots of weeds). Well, I have some places in my extended yard that the lawn mower can't reach, so my Grand-Goats are coming this week!!! They are hilarious! I'd do a video for you. You can have conversations with them too!
Okay, that's about it! On with the show!

Summer 2021 - Volume 10: Issue 3
Working Dogs Research Update
|
Greeting from Summertime in Canada! Our summers up here are short, but very much enjoyed and appreciated!
This edition of Four Leg News brings you recent research on hunting / working dogs. You’ll find included articles on New Zealand working stock dogs, Military dogs, Police and Search and Rescue dogs. An interesting study that looked at a genome comparison between sport-hunting dogs and terriers is included. As well, some information on the best cooling methods for working dogs and sacroiliac joint findings in young
working Labrador Retrievers.
I’m trying to compile these studies to be more and more concise every time! Quick bursts of knowledge, if you will! So, I hope you enjoy this edition!
Cheers!

Rehabilitation & Oncology

What is the role of physiotherapy and rehabilitation in oncology? It’s actually more important that you might think!
In the veterinary world, oncologic care tends to reside within the realm of the veterinary specialist centers, where chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and such are offered for treatment. Or perhaps the owner is looking for an alternative, in which case a holistic veterinarian (or team) might be consulted in regards to prescription of or advisement on homeopathics, herbal medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, diet
alterations, or other non-traditional veterinary therapies.
Where does rehab fit in?
Firstly, and clearly, it is not an alternative to either of the traditional or non-traditional treatment paths mentioned above. However, rehabilitation and physiotherapy can be important adjuncts to improve wellbeing and overall health in the veterinary (or human) cancer patient. Physiotherapy can be involved in care, management, and rehabilitation of cancer patients from diagnosis to end of
life.

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's
so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to
FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
GO THERE... CHECK IT OUT!
