Affordable & Expansive Learning to be had!
What's new?
Well, I've got a few days off... which always means getting caught up. However, it also allows me the freedom to have a non-productive day here and there! So, all good!
I like this week's blog. It came from a recent client interaction and it made me think that advising owners on how to help their dog function (in any capacity) IS a facet of physical therapy.
The Olympics being on TV is a bit of a 'time-suck'. However, I have to admit that I enjoy it and enjoy cheering on my Canadians. So, I guess, so long as I also have my computer with me, it can still be productive time as well!!!
On the activity front, Hubby and I went kayaking on Saturday. Goats have been entertaining. And our sheltie puppy turns 1 on Tuesday.
And as always, I am grateful to everyone sticking with me and enjoying the new FourLeg format and look! It really is the best bang for your buck in regards to a continuing learning resource.
So, that's it for the updates... On with the show!!

Four Leg BLOG:
Advising Owners on How to Help Their Older Dog with Vision Problems
|
|
As canine rehab professionals, many of us likely have a large clientele base of senior dogs. While our main focus with these dogs is likely to be improving pain and physical function, there are other aspects of aging that we are well poised to deal with. One such area is helping owners of dogs who are losing their vision to better cope and function by advising on home modifications and/or tools that can help their
dogs.
My experience has been that most of the times, these clients have had to be creative on their own and/or seek advice from the internet. Traditional veterinary appointments are just too short to delve into a topic such as this in any great depth. Rehab appointments however are longer and we tend to establish deeper connections with our dog owners, thus positioning us in a perfect position to advise on such things as
‘tips and tricks for helping the visually impaired dog.’
So, this blog is a little bit of personal experience and a collection of knowledge gained over the decades and information that I searched online as well.

Protector of the Goats...
Just for fun, this is my son's mini Hinny (Mom Donkey, Dad Horse) who hangs out with and protects his goats. This is him doing his job when he first arrived in our yard. He's hilarious and truly and A**!

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc,
etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the
Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!

Have a great week everyone!
Until next time... Cheers!
