Affordable & Expansive Learning to be had!
What's new?
It's busy. Just busy. I know that is true for just about all of us right now - both work and home life! We can't even do one 'night' out at our cottage because of stupid haying. I might be bitter!
This past week, I have nothing really exciting to report. Seriously, the highlight was finding a video on how to trim my zucchini and squash plants in order to promote more 'fruit'. So, that has been done, because thus far I have only grown ONE freaking zucchini! The plants are thriving and throwing vines out all over the place. Apparently, that's the problem. I'll update you all (as I'm sure you'll be waiting with anticipation) if my
garden harvest improves!
Otherwise, I am going on a 'real' vacation next week - Friday to Wednesday. We're going to Salt Spring Island in BC. I've never been, but have always wanted to go. My husband's uncle & aunt have a place there and it appears to be the size of a boutique hotel!!! So we're taking them up on their offer to come for a visit! I can't wait to eat seafood!!!!
So, that's it for the updates... On with the show!!

Manage, Monitor, Predict, & Respond – Advice for the Dog with a Chronic Condition
|
|
I received a question in regard to a sporting dog with lumbo-sacral disc disease. The question was a bit more specific to the individual dog and their signs/symptoms, but it gave me a spark of inspiration for this blog. What do we advise to the owner of a dog with a chronic condition in regards to continuing competition or practice? I penned a few thoughts on how I have managed this scenario with previous
cases. Hence the title: Mange; Monitor; Adapt; Respond.
Let’s first recognize for a moment that as humans, we push ourselves to do activities that we love or have to do, despite our injuries. Sometimes we know that if we do ‘this’, then ‘that’ will happen. We do it all the time, from what we eat or drink, to recreational activities, to where and how we focus and manage our time at work, in class, around the home, and so on!
Managing our limitations, monitoring effects, predicting potential reactions (to proactively counteract), and responding to consequences is something we do for ourselves. So why not adopt this approach with our canine athletes (when appropriate) as well?

For over a year, I worked with Physiotec (an online exercise platform) to create a exercise prescription platform for canine rehab practitioners. And this is it!
I've put hundreds of exercises together onto this handy platform. You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's so much: Massage, owner-friendly joint therapies, exercises, advisement, etc,
etc!
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by Physiotec (and they charge separately for it's use)... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the
Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
Go there... Check it out!!!

Have a great week everyone!
