Four Leg Training Video 218 - STAPL
Canine Stenosing Tenosynovitis of Abductor Pollicis Longus

Thank you to Helen Robartes for this contribution. I had seen Helen mention a presentation that she had done on this topic (which I had never heard of), so I asked if she would record it for Four Leg so that I could share it with all of you! (And learn about it myself!!!) It's a fascinating topic, and since learning about this, I think I may have seen one already!!! Maybe...
Either way, this a Knowledge Boosting Video! ENJOY!
Cheers!

Knowledge Nugget - Motor Control Exercises versus Strengthening

I was scrolling through last month’s research articles of interest and came upon a review paper on exactly this subject. Unfortunately, I was unable to access the full paper, but the abstract gives us enough information to have a conversation about this topic and see if it might have an impact on our canine caseloads as well!
So, here’s the paper.
Lafrance S, Ouellet P, Alaoui R, Roy JS, Lewis J, Christiansen DH, Dubois B, Langevin P, Desmeules F. Motor Control Exercises Compared to Strengthening Exercises for Upper- and Lower-Extremity Musculoskeletal Disorders: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analyses of Randomized Controlled Trials. Phys Ther. 2021 Jul 1;101(7):pzab072.
The short version, is that the authors included 21 RCTs that included 1244 patients. All papers selected looked at the efficacy of Motor Control Exercises (MCEs) compared to strengthening exercises for adults with upper- or lower-extremity musculoskeletal disorders.
And what did they determine?

I've put all of my exercises (and some of yours) onto a handy platform - Physiotec! It's a wonderful online resource for delivering home exercise / advice programs.
There are HUNDREDS of exercises FOURLEGEXERCISE.COM already! You can find the exercises, print off a handout, send them a link to the VIDEOS of the exercises. There's
so much! Massage, Owner-friendly joint therapies, Exercises, Advisement, etc, etc.
NOW... be aware that this platform is run by / owned by / billed for separately, by... Physiotec... and the support for the website is via physiotec as well. The MAIN GLITCH I am finding now... is that when you e-mail or call tech-support you will NEED to LET THEM KNOW that your question pertains to
FOURLEGEXERCISE! (Otherwise, it's a bit of a schmozzle to get sorted, because they direct you to the Physiotec website vs FourLegExercise website!!!) Check it out and LET ME KNOW (what you think, your experiences, etc... so that I can report back if there are issues!)
I hope you find it useful!
GO THERE... CHECK IT OUT!
