Hello, Can you feel the shift in the air? Spring is coming! The days are noticeably longer, and we move the clocks one hour ahead on Sunday, March 10th, the same day as the new moon. Spring officially arrives at 11:06 pm EDT on Tuesday, March 19th. We’ll have nearly equal hours of day and night on the 19th and then the
days continue to grow longer until the summer solstice in June. Read more about the arrival of spring in the Farmer’s Almanac. We end the month on Easter Sunday, March 31st. Thus, the month is full of shifts, movement, and new beginnings. Some interesting new options in housing are
emerging. Check out Culdesac, the first car-free, newly built neighborhood, in Tempe, AZ. This is a walkable, rental community with a lot of open space, a gym, retail shops, restaurants, and other amenities to encourage people getting together. It’s adjacent to a light rail station and e-bikes are also readily available. AZ is hot during the summer, so the e-bike months might be somewhat
limited. If this venture is successful, expect to see similar developments in other areas. The Good News Network recently featured a mud and hemp house that is being built in the UK. It’s a super energy efficient home that has a low carbon footprint. The
labor costs are a bit high though. Once they figure out some ways to automate the construction process, this could be a viable and sustainable option for future housing.
We also have two eclipses coming up: a lunar eclipse on March 25 and a solar eclipse on April 8. The lunar eclipse will be during the wee hours of the morning, when most people are sleeping. The solar eclipse will be more dramatic, at approximately 3:30 pm
