EDITOR’S THOUGHTS

EMERGENCY GRANTS SPECIAL EDITION

After seeing so many emergency grants being generated across the country, I felt the urgent need to shoot this special EMERGENCY GRANTS issue to you. Sorry that it isn't in alphabetical order (wouldn't help most people anyway) or location order. It's a compiled list of all I could find as of today.

People are hurting everywhere, and since writers generally are not high income earners, they are hurting even more. Some are not sure where to turn, where to pitch, since so many entities are temporarily shut down. Agents aren't necessarily working and neither are publishers or other sorts involved in book producing. Besides, nobody can tour or go to bookstores, libraries, schools, or other public venues. Magazines are slowing. . . some shutting down.

I'm hurting for you all.

FundsforWriters has been around for 20 years with its mission being to bring to you the best opportunities we could find each week to aid your writing career. Well, this time, we couldn't wait for a regular issue since there's such an urgent need and so much information to deliver.

Therefore, please consider this my best effort to get grant relief to some of you. I hope and pray that a good many of you can find assistance at one of these sites. Many of these are brand new, some will only last temporarily, and others have been around a long time.

Some have deadlines, and others will give out grants until their money runs out. Some are out of money but are in the process of gathering more. Don't give up if you didn't make the first round of those that have multiple rounds.

Do not forget to check with your state arts commission, as well. I did not get a chance to connect with all 50 states and the territories to see who has and hasn't come up with additional funds.

https://www.arts.gov/partners/state-regional

Do not forget to check with your state's unemployment office since there are funds for those in the freelance/gig business who are now sidelined.

https://credit.org/unemployment-office-locations/

I haven't included grants for retreats and getaways, and I haven't included grants for non-writers. Likewise, none of these pertain to students, and except for three or four, all are within the confines of the United States. And as a reminder, FundsforWriters posts calls for submissions, but it does not issue grants.

If you successfully land a grant, please let me know so we can share your success and joy with the readership. I want the readers to see that, yes, these grants have a purpose and they are real. Hopefully, I'll receive hundreds of success stories from you all.

Take care, stay safe, and excuse the typos. This was a quick edition of FundsforWriters. PLEASE, feel free to share it to whomever you wish. And if you hear of any additional emergency grants, by all means let me know at [email protected] and I'll add them to subsequent newsletters and the website.

Sending positive vibes to you all!

FRACTURED ATLAS
https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/fiscal
Fractured Atlas wants to help you raise money for your artistic work. As the country’s largest arts fiscal sponsor, we provide accessibility, efficiency, and affordability. There is a passionate community of philanthropic individuals, charitable foundations, and government institutions devoted to funding the arts. The catch is that many independent artists and small companies lack the 501(c)(3) tax status that makes them eligible to apply for grants and incentivizes individual gifts. With fiscal sponsorship, you can solicit tax-deductible donations and apply for grants without going through the onerous process of launching a 501(c)(3). The sponsored "project" might be a one-time collaboration or an independent artist or even an arts organization that does not have its own 501(c)(3) status. Our program is open and accessible to artists and arts organizations nationwide and in every artistic discipline. We won't judge the artistic quality or merit of your work.
