It rolls in like a fog over your whole being.
Without realizing it, you’ve become restless, lethargic, and dull. Nothing seems satisfying.
Everything turns into something you have to do—and there’s nothing that you want to do. Time slows to a crawl.
Where’s the aliveness that’s here in every moment? Nowhere to be found.
If
this sounds familiar, then you’re experiencing boredom.
In the spirit of awakened living, of being fully alive in our lives, let’s explore how boredom works to disconnect us with the truth of the moment.
Bringing the
light of awareness to our in-the-moment experience, we’re curious about boredom, seeing it with fresh eyes rather than being bogged down by its power.
What is it like to be bored? It starts with a heavy feeling in the body that quickly triggers the story-telling mind. With the mind and body caught in its grip, it oozes in and takes us over like
slime.
Our exploration reveals the truth of the moment that is full, luminous, and perfectly okay—and the mind that is telling us how flat and tedious it is. That’s why boredom is a point of view.
What does your mind tell
you when you’re bored?
My guess is that you’ll find thoughts full of “no.” I’m bored, I don’t like how I feel, there’s nothing I want to do, not this again…and on and on…
If you’re believing what the mind is telling you, no
wonder you’ve fallen asleep to the reality of the moment.
And when you identify as bored, you can’t also be present with yourself or intimate with others.
What is here in your direct experience is always fresh. It’s beyond
time so it can’t be familiar and repetitive.
The mind will tell you that you’ve done something a million times before. But the truth is that it’s always new, always fully alive… Like the innocence of a child discovering everything for the first time…
When we notice boredom, the invitation is to come out from under the blanket that covers up the present moment. And how do we do that?
Get interested in what’s here—which is your whole life. Don’t believe the stories that pull you into feeling lifeless and blah. They’re old news, and they distract you from peace and happiness
available now.
Coming alive to the moment—without the mind’s stories—what do you notice? This is what's been here all along, but now you get to breathe, feel into your body, and take in the world through the magnificence of your five senses.
And there’s the palpable knowing of awareness...the ever-present energy of aliveness that is empty and awake, here as the backdrop of all experience...infinitely full...
Ahhhh…. You’re aware in the timeless now… Open, innocent, and free…
And from here, the moments of your life are full of wonder and curiosity...even if they're hard.
The bored point of view will convince you that life is a drag and needs improvement. Bringing your attention out of your head and into the present moment, you're available to the wonder of all
that's here...overflowing with aliveness...
Sending much love...🧡
