Issue #509 - Sunday, January 16, 2022
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- There are several ways to clone a cannabis plant, but none of them is as easy and cheap as the method we're going to show you today. In fact, with this method, you can take a few cuttings from your growing plants and be passively raising the next generation of your plants with almost no effort. It's a nearly-free method to turn one plant into dozens or even more!
- Want the fastest clones possible? An aerocloner consistently makes clones in 2 weeks or less!
- Today was harvest day for my autoflowering grow journal! Check out the harvest and drying pictures for my two auto-flowering tents. Next up is a weigh-in then THC/terpene lab results for the buds!
- This week's trophy pics are nothing but great pictures of sticky, sticky bud. Well, that's almost true. One of the sets of pictures is actually a male plant that won't produce anything but pollen. Not every grower can spot a male plant on sight, so today, there's an easy test for your skills at identifying the sex of a plant. Don't worry, we've still included a good helping of tasty-looking bud!

How to Clone Weed in a Cup of Water (🥤➕💧)✖🌱=🌱🌱🌱
|
|
Did you know you can clone cannabis by putting a piece of a branch in water? Just leave your cup in a warm sunny spot and wait 2-3 weeks for roots to form (some plants take longer or shorter).
Who doesn’t want a bunch of free plants when it’s this easy?
Roots form in 2-4 weeks on average (some strains make roots faster than others, and some stubborn strains may take longer than 4 weeks)
Put a rooted clone in soil, coco, or hydro, and you’ve got a new free plant!
Each of these cuttings is an exact copy of the "mother" plant. As a result, you know that all these clones will grow pretty much the same as each other (and their mum). Cloning is also a great way to produce a lot of plants at once for basically free. If buying seeds is too expensive (and creating your own seeds isn't feasible), then cloning can make growing a lot more affordable. Cloning via the "cup method" is easy and doesn't take much space, effort, or equipment.
This tutorial will teach you how to make rooted clones like this in a cup of water (it's easy!)
How to Clone Cannabis with the Cup Method
First, you will need a few supplies...

Want rooted clones in 10-14 days?

An aerocloner makes roots in as little as 10 days for most strains
|
The clone in a cup method is the easiest cloning method, but certainly not the fastest. Some clones in cups make roots in 2 weeks, but genetics makes a big difference and some strains need 30 days or more to produce roots using this method.
If you need rooted clones right away, what you want is a hydroponic aerocloner. Basically it sprays water on the bottom of your clones, causing almost any strain to make roots in 10-14 days.

I'm going to make clones for my upcoming side-by-side grow journal, and since I want to get them all to root as fast as possible, I'll be using the aerocloner. If you watch this space in the newsletter I'll show you the whole process as I do it! ~Nebula
Photoperiod vs Auto-Flowering Cannabis Strains
|
|
Photoperiod (standard) plants won’t make buds until they get long nights while auto-flowering plants automatically start making buds about a month after germination.
If you’ve just started growing marijuana for the first time, you may be a little overwhelmed by all your strain options. Two common types of strains are photoperiod (standard / traditional) and auto-flowering (boutique strains that are ready to harvest much faster). If you don’t know what that means, it can be a little confusing. What is the better option for you?
The biggest difference is photoperiod cannabis plants need 12-hour dark periods to start making buds to simulate the long nights of autumn (typically done by putting grow lights on a timer), while auto-flowering strains automatically start making buds about a month after germination (without any change in light schedule).

Auto-Flowering Grow Journal: Week 13

The Lemon Auto buds got sparkly and fat, especially in the topped/trained tent. They actually smell like citrus, too (though maybe not quite "lemon")
|
Harvest day!!!
I felt certain that the “untrained” tent with the bigger plants was going to have the biggest yields, but when I started harvesting I realized that the “trained” tent with the smaller plants may actually pull ahead. Although the bigger plants had long buds, the shorter plants were total bud balls. Every plant had multiple fat buds while the untrained plants had only a few each. I can’t wait to do the final weigh-in in about 10 days after they’re done
drying.
Untrained tent before harvest
Drying in tent after harvest – this took a surprisingly long time because there were so many branches
This is the topped and trained tent just before harvest
Harvested and drying in tent. Harvest went MUCH faster with this tent. The plants were much shorter than in the other tent, but once I cut off all the branches it was pretty amazing just how many fat buds each plant was hiding. I think this
tent may end up winning for yields
I have them all drying in their tents with the exhaust fan on the lowest setting. I also set the Air Conditioner to keep the dry room at 60°F (15.5°C) and the humidity in the tents is almost
exactly 60% RH. I've had the best luck air-drying in 60°F and 60% RH (never mold, never harshness) so I'm pleased with the current drying conditions. The buds should take about 10 days to dry at this rate. Then the weigh-in and finally the lab test results.

"Hey guys long time listener first time caller lol. I can’t even count the times I have suggested for fellow growers to visit your site. I feel I owe at least 99% of my success to the two of you, and 1% to the simple love I have for these plants!"
~Chad
I appreciate that the site was good enough for you to refer others. I'm way too proud, right now! ~Sirius
"Hi I look forward to Monday morning to your newsletter makes my day."

"Cherry Pie, harvested at 8 weeks. 35-45% ambient humidity during the final 2 weeks generated insane trichome density. Grown under 1 x Spider Farmer SF-2000 and 1x Mars
Hydro TSL 2000W.
FFOF soil and FF Trio.

Scammers Love Stealing Your Money!
|
|
Scammers truly love scamming people.
If you've ever seen videos of people catching scammers, a distressing thing you'll notice is that scammers seem to love what they do up until they get busted. If you want to ruin a scammers day, make sure you don't fall for their scams, and report any scams you run into. Hopefully, some day in the near future, scammers will have to do hard labor on the surface of the sun. But until then, let's all make their "jobs" harder by making sure no one else falls into a
scammer's trap.
Remember when it comes to buying seeds: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact you (whether by DM, text message, phone call, email, etc.).

- Picture Guide to Cloning Marijuana - If cloning in cups of water is too easy, cheap, and convenient, you can always do it the tried-and-true way. It's not as easy, but it's faster and you can speed the process up even more with the use of cloning gels and rooting powder.
-
How to Make Cannabis Clones with an Aero Cloner - Are you the type of person that grows using DWC because growing in soil or coco seems too...unwizardly? Are you the type of grower that just can't wait for anything to happen at a reasonable pace? If either of these applies to you, knowing how to make clones with an Aero Cloner
needs to be in your toolbox.

Complete Guide to Monstercropping for Better Yields - Monsterscropping is even further down the rabbit hole for those who don't like to do things the "normal" way. Monstercropping is taking your clones from flowering plants to keep some weird but cool growth patterns. Is it necessary? Not at all. Is it super cool? 100%!
- Top-Fed DWC Cannabis Setup Guide – Bubbleponics - I'm not trying to suggest anyone do this, but a determined grower could use monstercropped clones from an Aero Cloner and grow them in a DWC setup. You would still just end up with good homegrown weed at the end, but it would definitely be a picture-worthy
journey!
