Issue #520 - Sunday, April 3, 2022
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- Growing cannabis is actually really easy to do. Seriously! When growers run into serious issues, it's typically something that could be handled easily with the correct knowledge. Today, our goal is to send you away with the ability to completely avoid seven types of problems new growers run into. Who needs to learn from mistakes, anyway?
- Get a list of some recommended strains that will reward you with happy plants and fantastic buds.
- Get the latest update on my current grow. It was a busy week, the clones exploded with roots and then were planted and topped.
- I think I went into a weed trance when I was picking out the trophy pictures this week. I was looking at some lush plants, then suddenly, a bunch were already picked out and waiting on the newsletter. Nebula says my memory is to blame, but that couldn't possibly be the case. It must be trophy-picture based weed-trance. There's no other answer!

7 Common New Grower Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
7️⃣⛔👩🏫
|
|
The current (undeserved, in my opinion) legal status of marijuana makes it so that many new cannabis growers end up learning some hard lessons on their own.
I regularly see pictures of cannabis plants that are struggling with caretakers that don’t know what’s wrong. Often, the owner is missing a small but vital piece of plant care knowledge that would quickly solve their problem.
Avoiding cannabis growing problems is how you grow amazing weed
With this in mind, we’ve compiled a short list of the most common mistakes we see new marijuana growers make. Read below to find out if you’re making one of these common blunders.
1. Genetics wreck you
Oh, how tempting it is to grow a bagseed (a seed you find in your buds). You like the buds it came from, and it’s free. What’s the problem?
Many growers have been pulled in by the prospect of growing a free seed found in their marijuana, and many of these growers have been disappointed. That’s because seeds you find may be duds, males, runts, or hermaphrodites. What’s worse, even when plants from bag seeds
grow well, the buds may not be anything like the ones you found them in. That’s because the bud traits you want have not been stabilized into a strain.
Using random cannabis seeds (even from dank bud) can deliver unpredictable results. Plants may grow wild or produce small airy buds with low potency, even if the original weed was dense and potent.
Don’t grow this by accident! Bad genetics produce bad buds even if you do everything perfectly.
How to Avoid Bad Genetics:
Remember when it comes to genetics…
- Poor genetics always produce poor buds even if you do everything perfect
- Great genetics can produce great buds even if you make a lot of mistakes.
There are major differences between different cannabis genetics from potency to density to smell to effects. Choose the right cannabis seeds to get what you’re looking for.
2. Overwatering (watering too often or too much at a time)
Many of us were brought up thinking that plants need sunshine and water every day. This, combined with a new grower’s thirst to provide for their plants causes many people to water their plants more than is needed.
Overwatering can cause a surprising array of symptoms
Here's how to water plants perfectly every time...

Update: My Roots are Out of Control
|
|
Clones roots are out of control – March 29, 2022
I left the clones in there a few more days than I meant to and next thing I knew they looked like this in the aerocloner.
Luckily that means they’re going to be exploding in growth. When cannabis clones have big roots they tend to take off the moment they start getting nutrients and full light.
Here's what they looked like on top (aerocloner is in middle with mom plants on the sides).
Now to move the best-matched clones into their final homes. I tried to pick two clones from each strain that seemed to have similar overall plant structure and root development.
I think I did a pretty good job matching them in each tent, don't you think?
This tent will be the "defoliation" tent (not that it matters yet)
This tent will be the "natural" tent (receive no defoliation in the flowering stage).

"Love your newsletter! Just started germinating for this years grow last week. Very excited!!"
~Jeff
Germinating seeds is the beginning of a new 3-5 month friendship with some green buddies who only want to get you high I'm excited for you! ~Sirius

"I love your website! Its my go-to for all the grow info I need."
~William
You guys keep calling us "go-to's" and Nebula is going to get an ego. That would never happen to me since I'm the most humble person to ever be humble 😂 ~Sirius

"How do you trim? I wet trim and leave some of the trichome-coated sugar leaves on for better burning and taste..
After all, isn't it the trichomes that contain all the good stuff? (terpines, thc etc) I have people bitch that I "leave too much leaf". My bud is on the left. The one on the right is a "szkittles" bud a friend gave me...looks naked to me."
~Mr. K
Nebula likes to dry them with all the leaves on, then trim them close like in the picture on the right. I wet trim mine on day-1 to look like the one on the right. So we get similar results, but with a slightly different strategy. Also, we can appreciate weed trimmed in any way 😂
How do you all trim? ~Sirius

"I’m dropping the alias. Hey, looks! Orphan Annie, the REVEG. My 1st time with one. She is a jungle. I have defoliated her for an hour several times. This was tonight, she got skinned real good 2 weeks ago. She’s a maniac, bless her heart. I’m keeping her in veg until Patsy Cline is ready to go 12/12. So will Orphan Annie. I’ve got 4 going to town in super soil, 4,000 watt
LED’S, TPS ONE, TPS Canopy, Mother Earth Season’s Harvest. I think O. A. Is about 7 months now. CHEERS!"
~Mark (Major Stamen)
I love how you tend to incorporate unconventional angles into your pics. It makes them very interesting to look at 🤩 ~Sirius
"My f2 FREAKSHOW n skunk."
~Glad.stoner
I love freakshow, but I was totally taken aback by those cotyledons. I don't I've ever seen them that long before. Freakshow earns its name! ~Sirius
Check out the cotyledons on the plant below. What a showoff!
"Not cannabis, but the carrot ROCKS! Thank you both for continually making my Sunday morning perfect. Also, want to share photos of a *double-looking stem thing*. I don't know what to call the mutation but its like two stems are growing together to create a double bud. This is a strain I got from ILGM called Harlequin. It is feminized, photoperiod,
high-CBD strain I am growing to add to my homemade kambucha. Growing in soil with Green Planet nutrients, under the MarsHydro 2000."
~Sandra
We don't have a name for that double-stem mutation... or did we just name it? Either way, these plants look fat and fantastic 🏆
Also, cannabis + kombucha = Cannabuch (pronounced canna-booch)? Before you say no to the name, try pronouncing it out loud. It's pretty fun to say. ~Sirius

No to Scams of All Types and Sizes!
|
|
Sounds legit to me!
You just won $10,000,000!
How many people have been lured into scams of all types by the promise of a large amount of money? Probably hundreds of millions by now, if not more. You have the Nigerian Price scams, Publishers Clearing House scams, and the most hated of all (by us), seed scammers. In short, don't buy anything from anyone who approaches your through email or social media with a proposition that sounds too good to be true. Even if it sounds legit, don't do it if you feel even a
shred of suspicion.
Remember when it comes to buying seeds: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact you (whether by DM, text message, phone call, email, etc.).

As you saw in the article above, harvesting at the wrong time (usually too early) is one of the most heartbreaking mistakes a new grower can make. Read this page and remember that it's better to harvest a bit too late than too
early.

How to Check pH & Stop Cannabis Nutrient Deficiencies - I know, just hearing the term "pH" is enough to make most people pass out from boredom. But I swear, being able to manage pH will fix many of the problems growers run into. Plus, it feels good to know you can handle anything that affects your plants!

GrowWeedEasy’s Grower’s Glossary - Although it has a prominent link, many people don't know we maintain a glossary of terms used by cannabis growers. It's helpful for those who aren't used to the terminology growers use online since many people grow in secret even, in legal states. Reply to this email and let us know if there's a term we
need to add. In fact, I just thought of one!
- What to do with extra weed (curse of the grower) - Once you get used to the process of growing and harvesting your own cannabis, I can guarantee you'll quickly build up a healthy surplus of weed. But what do you do with all the weed you can't smoke or give away? This page has some ideas,
