Issue #528 - Sunday, May 29, 2022
Dear Fellow Grower,
In today's issue...
- It's around the time of year where the sun gets angry at the people who live in the northern hemisphere. Whether you're growing indoors or outdoors, temperature is suddenly going much more important for many growers. Today, we'll go over a few cheap supplements that can greatly reduce the wrath of the summertime sun!
- Some neat stuff happening in one of my grow tents right now! Apparently the non-defoliated plants are abandoning all their lower buds that are sitting in darkness, and it looks cool. I got a nice closeup-picture for you!
- A lil' bitty weed forest, an tiny intruder on a well-trained plant, and a trip to trichome town. "Micro" is the makeshift theme of today's installment of Trophy Pictures of the Week, and it's giving me some "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" vibes. Go check it out (after appropriate dosage) and try not to get stuck to the trichomes.

3 Proven Supplements
to Help Cannabis with Heat Stress
🌞🌳🥵➡😎
|
|
High temperatures can make growing cannabis a lot harder, even if you’re growing with heat-resistant strains. Droopiness, nutrient deficiencies, crispy brown leaves, and overall slow growth are common symptoms of heat stress, whether your
plants are growing indoors or outdoors!.
Actually…yes! There are 3 specific supplements that are known to help cannabis plants be more overall resistant to heat stress, drought, and high temperatures. Just water your cannabis plants with these all-natural supplements and it will help get them through those too-hot days.
Help your marijuana plants be more resistant to heat stress, unlike this poor baby!
Example of a heat-resistant strain: Orange Candy (also called “Naranchup”) thrives in the heat. This plant experienced temperatures over 95°F (35°C) yet wasn't even fazed.

Buds are starting to fall over – May 28, 2022
These are the last pictures of the plants “naked” because immediately after taking these pictures some of the buds started falling over because they’re getting weighty. Now they’re being held up by plant yo-yos, so you’ll see more of those in pictures next week.
“Natural tent” on left, “Defoliation tent” on right – Day 38 since initiating 12/12
Natural tent – notice how it’s “abandoning” the entire bottom part of each plant. This seems to happen to leaves and bud sites that don’t get any light.
You can see why those buds are getting abandoned. The bottom of the plant is in total darkness when the tent is closed.
Pretty crazy to see the plants in the natural tent. All 3 plants have abandoned all the lower growth. It’s turning yellow and the bud sites located down there have kind of shriveled and aren’t developing. I have observed this in the past when parts of the plant don’t get any light at all. I don’t believe it’s a nutrient deficiency because the buds and leaves that get light look flawless. The only leaves that are showing signs of trouble
are the ones that are completely in the dark all day. It makes sense if you think about it. Cannabis is a wind-pollinated plant in the wild, and buds that don’t get access to air or light probably won’t spread or receive pollen from the wind.
Here’s a closeup of some of those bottom parts of the plant. It’s mostly just the bud sites that have gotten pale, but the plant also seems to be giving up on some of the bottom leaves.
The abandoned buds all look like this. They still have trichomes (glitter) and pistils (hairs) like a regular bud, but the leaves attached to the buds turn a pale yellow and the buds don’t fatten.
Here’s a bud from the top of the same Platinum Cookies plant, which doesn’t have any sign of a nutrient deficiency. All the buds that get light appear pristine.
Pretty neat! It’s like a cannabis plant will lollipop itself to an extent.
On the other hand, in the defoliation tent, all the leaves are getting light and all appear a normal green
As far as I can tell, the top buds in each tent look exactly the same so it’s difficult to tell which plant will yield more. It should start getting more obvious soon, hopefully by next week!

"Thanks GWE, Fantastic content for newbies AND the seasoned grower alike. No diagnosis needed, however whilst performing a little LST and a SUPERCROP on this Kush hybrid clone I came across this Mealybug. My immediate thought was "what the..."
followed by, "I have to send this to GWE" No need, one quick look at GWE's fantastic collection of creepy crawlies garnered an immediate identification. Feel free to add this one to the vault of horror lol
Thanks again for all you do. Happy growing."

That's a perfect example of LST and an excellent picture of a mealybug; we'll definitely add it to the vault of horror 😂 Thanks for the kind words. Your email put a huge smile on both our faces 🙏 ~Sirius

"I was given a couple dozen clones! Didn’t have room so I put three to a pot and put several right into flower! They are GG4 and White widow! I have six more I kept in veg that are getting big."
~Docster
This is a great example of turning lemons into lemonade. Too many clones? Flower them and harvest a significant amount of bud 🌳 ~Sirius

More like "harvest real soon" cuz she ready! 🤣 ~Sirius
To scammers: Please stop scamming.
|
|
I guess I never thought of just asking them nicely...
|
Wait, have we tried just asking scammers to just scamming?
Truth be told, asking a scammer to stop scamming could possibly work on the right scammer if you asked at just the right time. Unfortunately, part of being a scammer means having to suppress any feelings of guilt you have over hurting another human. So asking a scammer to stop would only work on a microscopic percentage of the scammer population.
Until scammers collectively gain a conscience and start feeling bad about what they do, the safest bet is to super careful when giving out any type of information, especially when it's payment information (the scammer's favorite).
Remember when it comes to buying seeds: Real seed businesses don't contact you. They let you contact them. If anyone messages you to sell you seeds on social media, look out! It's possible they will take your payment and send nothing. Always take a second to think before sending money to anyone, especially if they contact you (whether by DM, text message, phone
call, email, etc.).
